Best way to import images from SD card?
I am trying to figure out the best way to import images into Media Pro from an SD card. Under File>Import Items, there are choices for Import and Download/Import. The latter seems to offer more options in terms of naming and setting a destination folder. What is the recommended method?

Maybe a DAM not the best application to do photo ingestion with, you could use IIP (Image Ingester Pro) or ingestamatic () instead.
Check out the ingestion page on dpBestflow (independant source) to learn more about the subject and see for yourself:

Roelof,
Thanks for the suggestion. I have never heard the phrase "photo ingestion" before. You may be right about using a separate program for that particular task, but it means extra steps. Also, Media Pro is supposed to be able to handle importation from cameras, cards, etc., which it does, but not in the most efficient manner.

Yes you are right that this is not very efficient. But it is at the same level as making adjustments. Probably you are using Photoshop to do that instead of MediaPro, am i wrong?
I'm using EM (predecessor of MP) in a "best of breed" configuration and yes that meens more steps alas.
However, you could look at Lightroom, it's a very good choice when you want to do most operations (efficient) in one application.

I use Capture One as my general raw convertor, because I like the adjustment tools and the results. But my workflow is even more complicated, because I use Raw Photo Processor (RPP) for my best images. RPP is a minimalist program that almost always requires the use of a secondary editor, such as Photoshop.
I will take a look at the two programs that you mentioned previously.

I use nikon transfer to download from my camera/card reader. I used to use Bridge...but Nikon Transfer is much easier and intuitive.
I don't like using a different application for every different step in my workflow....but I have found out the hard way that an application that does everything....does everything at a loss. To do everything it has to give up options somewhere else.
Media Pro has a hard enough time doing what is was designed for (DAM) without having to do other tasks best suited for another application.0 -

Import will just catalogue the files on the SD card. It will not copy them to disk. So once your card is out, the images are inaccessible. Download & Import will copy them to your hard disk.0
