Some questions from a beginner
Hello everybody,
Previously on Aperture, I'm currently trying Capture One Pro 7.2.3 for Mac OSX.
Here are some questions for which I did not find any answer on the software itself or through its documentation.
- Can one customize the browser labels (for example: replace the name of the files with the ISO setting)? As far as I know, one can only choose between off/status mode/edit mode.
- Same question with the main window (viewer).
- Can one simply move photos from one catalog to another? Please note that these photos must remain managed (not referenced).
- I think I've already noticed some elements of answer in this forum but maybe things have changed since the question was asked: is there a way to adjust time zone or date/time precisely in Capture One Pro whether it be during import or after?
- Is it possible to edit a metadata item for multiple files at once (some other way than doing a local copy & apply)?
- Is it possible to edit color tags? Especially, I would like to rename their labels (for example "red" would become "todo").
Thank you very much in advance for the clarification. I'm trying to figure out if Capture One Pro offers the same convenient ways of getting things done as Aperture 😉

The short answer is that matching Aperture's DAM features seems near impossible. I haven't found a happy spot with Lightroom, DxO Optics Pro, After Shot Pro, nor Capture One. I think Apple hit the mark and the others haven't or can't.
That said:
I don't think you can customize what metadata is displayed where.
I haven't found a way (other than export and then import) to move images between catalogs.
Some metadata can be edited across images by enabling Edit > Edit All Selected Variants and then right-clicking on one and working out of that menu or dragging them to an item in the Filter pane.
No way to edit color tag names that I've found.
Perhaps someone more experienced with C1 can add on here. I, too, am a recent Aperture refugee looking for a new home.0 -

This is exactly what I was afraid of...Some metadata can be edited across images by enabling Edit > Edit All Selected Variants and then right-clicking on one and working out of that menu or dragging them to an item in the Filter pane.
Then we agree that there is no easy way to modify the "copyright" metadata item among 3 images in one click? To do that, I can only go with the "local copy & apply" process?
I think the most ridiculous situation is when you choose to delete a keyword for example! You begin with selecting your keyword in the filter panel, then you toggle the button "edit selected variants", you select the pictures with that keyword, you delete the keyword and...drum rolls...the previous image disappears and the next one is selected as the primary variant and you cannot do your "local copy & apply" process.
There seems to be only two ways for deleting a keyword:
- you select each picture and you delete its keyword >> very very very time-consuming...
- in the viewer you select all the pictures that have that keyword, you toggle the button "edit selected variants", you delete the keyword for the primary variant and then you do the "local copy & apply" process for the other variants >> you need to know by heart which pictures have your keyword...:/
Did I miss something??I haven't found a way (other than export and then import) to move images between catalogs.
Really? Everybody confirms?
Another functionality that seems to lack: face recognition.
Last question: in the advanced search, is there a way to display only the pictures for which adjustments have been applied? I did not succeed in doing that...
Thank you everybody in advance for your support!0 -

You could create a preset for your copyright information and apply that to a selected groups of variants.0 -

Exact! 😉 However, it's quite drastic for just keywords!! xD
By the way, I've just done some tests with those presets and I did not succeed in applying multiple keywords presets? Can one do that?
For example, let's say I have preset1 with "keyword1" and "keyword2" and preset2 with "keyword3" and "keyword4". How do you add "keyword1","keyword2", "keyword3" and "keyword4" to a photo which has already "keyword5"?
Following my tests, even with stack presets, I can only apply preset1 OR preset2. More, it erases "keyword5" :/0
