Compare Variant into the next folder?
Hey friends,
Wondering if there was a way that someone knows of, of comparing a shot in one capture folder (/ shot folder), side by side with that in another shot folder.... without having to move the actual file into the folder that it's being compared with?
I'm thinking something along the lines of the "Compare Variant" tool, but this only works with shots in the same folder...
As a digi tech, I'm often asked to bring up previous shots - to compare exposures, colours, etc- to make sure things are matching up nicely. It becomes a bit of a file management nightmare, when I then need to move shots out of their intended folders just to do this.
Is there a way that I don't know about???
Or could this be a future feature I should request/log?

One way to do it is to mark the images you want to compare with a color label and then have a smart folder for that label. When you've compared them, clear the label.
The drawback is that you can have only one label, so if you use labels for something else you'll need to use keywords (which is a bit more involved, I find).

Perhaps you could create a Smart Album and filter by Display Name?
Create a Smart Album and set to "Match [color=#FF0000:ctpzk2mj]Any[/color:ctpzk2mj] of the following rules"
Add 2 search criteria
e.g.
Display Name contains 8888
Display Name contains 9050
(you could be more specific to reduce the number of matches)
Click on Save. Depending on how many images you have, it could take a while to show the images in the Browser. I found I had to click on a different entry in the Library and then back on the Smart Album to encourage it.
In the Browser, click on the first image and Ctrl+click (or Mac equivalent) on the second image and they should be displayed side-by-side.
