Noise reduction - Express vs Pro
I am currently running CO 6.1.1 Express on a Win 7 64 machine.
Are the noise reduction algorithms the same between the Express & Pro versions?
I'm processing high iso shots without flash, and it looks like I will need a 3rd party package.
LR 3.3 seems to do a decent job on most of the shots (as others have noted).

Tools in the limited and Pro version always have the same algorithms as far as I can remember. Regarding noise, the Pro version has additional tools (sliders), called Surface and Fine Grain. 0 -

Paul,
Thanks. I figured as much, as it is a pain to write two different sets of code.
Are these extra tools more fine tuning, or do they actually give a user "more noise reduction".
Most of the postings imply that the current level is still not up to current standards, like LR.
I suppose I should simply try the Pro version.

Try yourself is always the best option. And the CO6 help page on noise reduction can be found here:

I find the "Single Pixel" and "Surface" sliders do help to achieve better NR Results.
Call me crazy, but I also find (at least with my Canon 40D and 60D) that the "Moire" slider often does a better job of eliminating high-iso noise than the color/luminance NR sliders.
That said, I do think NR and sharpening are still weak spots in C1 compared to the competition...0
