C1 v4 and Nikon D3 .NEF files
Eventually I think I will be using the Nikon D3 and I have been very curious about how its raw files convert with C1 v.4, compared with the most recent version of Nikon Capture NX. I'm not thinking so much in terms of which converter is "better"[*][/color:12c2rflj] but rather what differences they display in their conversions of D3 .NEFs.
So far D3 images I've seen on the web have contained really outstanding renditions of skin tones, when converted with "NX". The extremely accurate ("convincing" in terms of a film-like response) rendition of skin tones in D3 files is pretty impressive...so clearly despite its strange user interface and the often-reported problems with batch processing, "NX" is capable of doing high quality conversions.
[*][/color:12c2rflj] "Better" ... I gave up a long time ago thinking of raw converter "A" as being "better" than raw converter "B". It seems as if no one converter does the best possible job on all possible images. So I use several of them, including even Canon's DPP (ugh! only on rare occasions!). C1 v.4, my quarrels with its user interface aside, does an unusually good job...but I never want to rely on only one converter.

I saw one message here reporting corruption problems with C1v4 and D3 .NEF files. But is there nobody here using both Capture NX and C1v4 with D3 files successfully? Again, I'd be very interested to hear how the two programs differ (if at all) in their treatment of skin tones. 0 -
I saw a post on Dpreview where they were getting great results with Capture One and the D3 ...

Phase One confirmed to me that so far the D3 DX format is not supported.
I have a D3 and really am impressed with the output using C1. I had been using a D2X and think that I notice better skin tone. I tried NX and didn't like the output. I think that LR does a better job than NX.0 -
The corruption problem (D3 NEF) resulted from using the DX format. As noted, it is not supported. Apparently PO has "fixed" the problem but no word yet when they will be releasing the update. Much happier with Lightroom. C1 v.4 has been an dissapointment from the start. 0
