Media Pro 1.1 - Does it render any faster?
It doesn't seem to for me. Every time they upgrade I check and it still takes a second or two to render an image properly (and this is using the "faster" Apple engine), so I go back to using my old, beloved iView MediaPro, which still works great.
Is anyone else getting better results? What are the optimal settings for the FASTEST render (Apple engine and Nearest Neighbor (faster)?

Hi,
yes I agree, rendering is a bit annoying ...0 -
1.1 is much faster than 1.0 on OSX Lion. 0 -
Hi,
not much, just a bit ... and it is still not satisfying ...0 -

Maybe 'a bit' for you, but 'much' for me. Clearly it's computer/hardware dependent so please don't assume your experience is the same as everyone elses and express your opinion as if it is the only one that matters.

You mean the way you did?0 -
I have a fairly new MacBook Pro, and the difference between Media Pro 1 and 1.1 is there, yes, but it still takes the program so long to render RAW images that it quickly becomes annoying. Especially when you know both iView Media Pro and Expression Media 2 does it much faster (in no time). I really don't get this, and I still feel my money for the upgrade is wasted. But of course I still hope this one day will get better, so that I can start using Media Pro. 0 -
NO. is my Answer.
I load images over a network. (can be 2000 at a time) And have for years.
But the new Media Pro rendering is so slow... on normal jpegs.
Double clicking on a thumb. In Media Pro is very frustrating. It can take 30 seconds to fully rez. and show you the large image un-pixalated !!.
iView Media never had this issue.
iView Media also builds the images as much quicker. But not fast. I was hoping Media Pro, would improve the speed.
Some of the slowness can be the network. But in fact its slower in most cases . And if you are building more than one Cat. only the one in front will build continuously. The others practically stall until they are frontmost.
In iView the Cats. building does slow but does not stall while in the background.
Another thing that is annoying, is the constant rescanning and popping up of the Activity Logwindow.
How do you stop it doing that and turn the log window OFF.?0 -
Media Pro 1.1.1 has been tested against previous versions of Media Pro, the Apple/WIC Render engine is faster than previous Media Pro Versions. 0 -
Well clearly people are finding a problem with the rendering in the real world..
What about the other issues I mention?0 -
Please create a support case and we'll get specifics of your machine and have a closer look. 0 -
On an iMac 10.6.8 I am not finding much difference/improvement with the rendering speed. Expression Media is still beating it but I suspect that the pixelated image I get whilst it's rendering in MP makes me think it's slower than it actually is. NEF's are taking approx. 3 seconds and jpegs approx. 2 seconds. In EM I'm getting NEF's through in about 2 seconds and jpegs are instant.
My memory is that iView was quicker than MP. I don't understand why Microsoft and a small company like iView did better than Phase One is doing.0 -
Same problem: just too slow rendering. I am posting here only to register a 2012 complaint, seeing as the ones dated since 2008 seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
I also go back to my old trusted iView when possible, with the caveat that I cannot install it on my new computer. Over the years, I have reached the allowed iView installs (a new computer--a new install) . Since this is the "upgrade", my iView disk is now useless and I am forced to use this substandard version.
Is anyone at Phase One listening...0 -

Since this post, nearly 9 months ago, we have released several updates to the software. The latest being 1.3.2/1.3.1 for Mac and Windows respectively. If you have concerns with these latest versions please create a new thread as appose to replying to one that is nearly a year old.0 -
I really hope, that every potential buyer is reading carefully in which harsh tone rightly frustrated users get to be ironed from here.
@NNN634693459212512034:
Testing Version 1.3.1 (WIN7 x64, newest codecs installed) was another waste of time. Rendering errors while importing (dng, tif, jpg) > 30%. Useless and odious.

I have been using iView Media Pro for a really long time. I switched to Expression Media when MS bought it. I was happy with both programs. Loved them really.
So. I was thrilled when Phaseone bought the program, I hated having a MS product on my Mac.
I tried MediaPro several years ago but did not buy it because it rendered the images so SLOW.
I could not try it again because I got the message "your trial period is over" So foolishly, I paid for it.
I am SHOCKED, that it still does not work. It is useless. Why is it inferior to iView and Expression Media? What gives Phaseone. I trusted that you were on top of things, gave you my money now I regret it.
My computer is a MacPro, 32 gig ram, so no problems there. Back to the ugly Expression Media. Ugh!0 -
I had left it last night importing about 3000 new Sony RAW images from an internal local disk.In the morning, the fan was blowing hard. After bringing it back from a black screen, it said it was still generating. I saved what it had done, and needed to reboot the machine. This is common type of behavior, on these Sony Alpha RAWs. I have other issues, but just saw this thread, and agreed with it from recent experience.
For what its worth, I am sure the long creation time is directly related to the size of the thumbnails/previews you create. The problem there, is that you either create small ones (making for quicker creation, but longer redraw), or you create big ones (with slower creation, but fast redraw). Not to mention the huge size of the catalog if you want big images with fast redraw when skimming through the catalog to actually use it.
To test, I created a new catalog, and added 50 Sony RAW files. In our workflow, we need to edit with RAW files, JPGs are done much later in the process. Also, we use Lion, so old programs not an option.
MediaPro v1.3.2 - 320px and 1024px - Creation = 1 Minute 50 Seconds
MediaPro v1.3.2 - Preview Skim Time = Instant
MediaPro v1.3.2 - Database = 7.5MB
MediaPro v1.3.2 - 160px and 800px - Creation = 1 Minute 05 Seconds
MediaPro v1.3.2 - Preview Skim Time = Instant, but view is either tiny, or pixelated (ie: Not usable)
MediaPro v1.3.2 - Database = 4.7MB
Corel Aftershot Pro v1.01 - Creation = 0 Minute 07 Seconds
Corel Aftershot Pro v1.01 - Preview Skim Time = Instant, full screen, zoom in gorgeous
Corel Aftershot Pro v1.01 - Database = 100K
ACDSee Pro v1.09 - Creation = 0 Minute 07 Seconds
ACDSee Pro v1.09 - Preview Skim Time = Slight lag, usable, but annoying.
ACDSee Pro v1.09 - Database = No idea where it was.
I'm not trying to sell anything, But Hey.... I'm just saying...0 -

For what it is worth, I just replaced my laptop with a new one that has a SSD and a spinner hd. The SSD has my Win 7 OS and all my application software, Media Pro and Capture one included. The data files and catalogs are all on the spinner. My MP catalog is 5.5GB.
My MP now is very fast, and my CO is much faster than before when I introduce new photos. I haven't done any quantitative comparisons yet, but I was not happy before - now I am quite happy.0
