Dual screen, Split preview& thumbs issue with 2 screen sizes
If you are using 2 screens for C1, I think you would be in the majority of the group of users.
If you have 1 Eizo, or NEC or Samsung, or whatever your flavor of screens you purchased for the crazy price the pro models sell for, you likely got one per station, so maybe you too are not able to see your thumbnails if you use the dual screen as I do....
I have the preview on the main color calibrated monitor while the thumbs are on the lesser screen. And if one of the screens is smaller, in my case the browser/thumbs screen, you can't see all the images, and struggle with changing screen size regularly....Unless there is a way to make the thumbnails like other "tool" windows, independent from the preview so you can size it to the screen it is on.
If there is a way to do this, I have not figured it out...Anyone?

Really? No one has this problem? Dual screen, different size, anyone ?, No? 0 -
I'm not quite understanding the exact issue...so bear that in mind and feel free to clarify...
Even if monitors are different sizes, setting to the same resolution seems to be the simplest method...
Then you should get the same full screen view on your smaller secondary (thumbnail view.) I use the viewer to place that window on my calibrated monitor, as I think you do also. At that point, I maximize the thumnail pane (I use mine in horizontal mode at the bottom) by dragging the top of the thumbnail pane (you should find that moving the mouse over the border between panes allows you to drag and resize once the icon changes from an arrow to a double arrow with a line)
Once that window is maximized as much as I need, and the thumbs are in grid mode...I can resize the thumbs to an appropriate size by using the preview zoom control at the top right of the preview pane. I don't change the size of the tools pane, but you could....
...hope that helps....if I have explained poorly or missed your issue entirely, please feel free to post for more clarity..0 -
Hi John,
You brought up something I was unclear or missed to mention...
The reason I use 2 screens is to have the thumbs on the right on the secondary screen and the preview large on the main screen. Screens are wider these days so having the thumbs on the bottom to some extent defeats the purpose of 2 screens, unless you have the second screen for other purposes and not using 1 app with 2 screens...or you like the tools on the second screen...but that normally leaves plenty space for thumbnails.
I recommend you use both your monitors at the maximum recommended resolution0 -
Ok, perhaps I'm using the software differently than you...but I use the "Viewer" option (F10) or Windows>Viewer from the menu....then dragging that pane to the calibrated monitor and maximizing. That gives a full controllable Preview Pane...so for me it wouldn't matter wether the thumbs were right or bottom...I'd still expand the previews pane to see more previews, or to allow me to zoom in on the thumbs....
...but again, I'm unclear about the issue you're describing, my main screen has a 100% view of the program that's modifiable to my taste...and my calibrated screen has only the preview at 100% of the screen, and allows zooming separately as well as the abilty to float toolbars there (although they overlay the preview)....

Thats it John! Before your post, I had tried to drag it out like other tools, and other ways, even drop down Viewer just showed or hid the view within the thumbs, but as soon as I hit F10, a new window appeared!
THANK YOU!0 -
I really don't understand how some of you can use both a calibrated and uncalibrated monitor at the same time. I understand you use the calibrated one for the main image view and critical adjustments, but just having one that is slightly off nearby (for me) affects the perception of the calibrated one.
For an illustrative example if one has a magenta light in peripheral vision near calibrated monitor it will make the calibrated monitor look like it has a green tint - even more so if one occasionally looks at that magenta light. Certainly the differences are not as extreme as this example, but the principle is the same.0 -
I have it set a little back and at an angle and use the hood on the main to block stray light .....and a crt for double check, and contract rip proofer to seal the deal before press. A-OK, No problems.
I can say that I think over the years my eyes have learned to ignore the second screen. Been using dual since Matrox 400 card, about 8 or more years ago. Once you go dual, you never go back 😊0 -
To add to Raffi...and I second his use of hoods...it is not as big a problem as you might think.
Even though I only calibrate one monitor, the two are very close AFA color, LCDs are very good in that respect...calibration on a good monitor simply gives you very good black and white points. Secondly, if you notice, the main screen is very much larger and keeping the tools, thumbs, etc on the second screen means there's little competition for your attention as you move through those thumbs using the keyboard. Placing floating tools for adjustments means you seldom need to look at the program screen at all.
It is a feature with huge dividends....as a user from V1, I can tell you that the ability to have all adjustments readily available on a 100% view...rather than switching tabs back and forth from the focus window to tooltabs as in versions through 3.x...well, just a so much better workflow even on one screen. Two simply increases the benefit.0
