Work flow recommendation for newbie
Good day,
I am brand new to Capture One, so please excuse my basic questions. As I have my 5 children's history of photos I don't want to do anything irreparable. Yes, I have made a couple of back-ups just in case.
I have just purchased Capture One Pro 12. I am trying to figure out the correct (best) way to integrate my 3 libraries into Capture One and say good by to Lightroom and Aperture 3.
My libraries are:
1 Aperture 3 (version 3.6) ca. 600gb on iMac (yosemite)
1 Lightroom 6.14 size 600gb on iMac (yosemite)
1 Lightroom 6.14 size 700 gb on MacBook pro (yosemite)
There are some duplicates between Aperture 3 and Lightroom libraries on the iMac. (I was unaware of pluggins and copied folder by folder but lost names, ratings etc. from Aperture to LR-- but all the edits etc. are still in Aperture 3). But the MacBook Pro library has no duplicates on iMac. (I should add there are some videos in the Aperture 3 library and a few in the LR6).
My goal is to have 1 library in Capture One and have this on an external RAID HD (to be purchased). And using my MacBook Pro and just purchased G-Tech SSD 2tb for downloading when shooting from MacBook Pro.
Some areas of uncertainties:
1. Do I upgrade Mac Operating System to Mohaje BEFORE trying to import?
2. Do I download Capture One Pro 12 using existing Yosemite OS (I have the download link having purchased the software) or wait until I upgrade the Mac OS to Mohave and then
3. Does Capture One flag duplicates and given the size of these libraries what is the most sensible way to start?
Thanks for any suggestions, links or references and Happy New Year

Having moved on from Aperture (and LR), let me suggest that you first become familiar with Capture One by using the webinairs and other outline sources. Your workflow and digital management approach will be to some extent influenced by the array of tools available in Capture One and may be, as it happened to me, by the power available in the adjustments you can make.
First be aware that as of this moment Capture One v 12 has not been cleared for use under Mojave. No worries. Many of us are not having problems.
Second do use the ability of Capture One to import an Aperture library and practice on one of those. Or Go into the Aperture "library" contents and simply copy a number of raw or whatever originals and import them into Capture One so you can begin to see what you can do.
But practice first before you begin to spend the time of moving your existing Aperture and LR materials. Its not that Capture One is that hard to use. Its because your images and your time deserve some experience.0 -

Actually the release notes say that Mojave (that is MacOS 10.14) is supported up to 10.14.1. But it is true that many of us are using 10.14.2 with no apparent problems.

1. This is a significant quantity of images. I would suggest to import your catalogues little by little, for instance by splitting your Aperture and LR libraries, as I am not sure Capture One would be able to swallow all this stuff at once. I switched from LR to C1 4 years ago, and at this time I had only a 500 Gb LR library. It took a long, long time (a full night) and I lost some pictures in the import process, that I had to import in a further step.
2. I am not sure Yosemite can support Capture One 12.0 -
thanks Ian-- I will watch it shortly. Many thanks 0 -
COP 12 will not run nor install on macos El Capitan or older, like Yosemite.
On my MBP it runs smoothly on High Sierra.
Before upgrading you may will check the hardware compatibility with Mojave since they have limited it to more recent hardware. My older Macbook Pro, early 2011, has reached it's end with High Sierra ...
You'll find the answers for your specific hardware here: https://support.apple.com/kb/SP777?view ... cale=en_US0
