how to create a lens data base ?
I want to view ,as I can in lightroom, via the meta data the images shot with a given lens.
if i select lens in the thumbnail search parameters the images are reordered by lens but there is no visual indication of this in the data shown under the large screen image [as per attached screen shot]
The only way I have been told to do this is to select all images then add via the + on the user collection a new smart album.
in this smart album I create two selection parameters being camera lens with full description as per mete data the second being focal length [as per attached image ]this is as per meta data [see also the second attached image[ .
I understand this smart album should self populate but it does not so I am obviously doing something wrong can any one help please?

Assuming the lens data is recorded (not all are - especially manual lenses of course and some older lenses.) you can filter for the criteria you need without necessarily creating a Smart Album. Of course a smart album, basically, is a set of filters that makes sense for searches you are likely to use regularly.
The Filter tool (default location under the Library tab but you can place it anywhere you want) has, by default, only a limited set of commonly used filter visible.
You can add further meta data based filters if you need them. Click on the 3 dots at the top right of the filter tool and then the "Show/Hide meta data filters" option and tick/untick whatever suits your needs.
That said, if you want to quickly see what filters you might be applying by default then a Smart Album, suitably named and without having had any additional selection criteria applied, may be more useful.

Grant, thank you yes that helps a lot I did not think of that its better than smart filters for what I want ,
I can't see how to post attachments here or I would have included screen shots to assist.

For attachments you need to host the file(s) somewhere that allows you to share them (MS OneDrive?, Dropbox? etc.) and then provide links or have them display in line using the tags around the link.
You should see the available options on the right of this window under the Smilies. (assuming you are using a default display style.)
