What is the difference between MP1.5 and the DAM in C1
So far I have been quite pleased with Capture One 8 (8.2) and was wondering if Media Pro would really take up the slack left by C1's just so-so digital assets management. Who can tell me what is specifically the role of MP in contradistinction to C1 with regard to viewing/managing the varieties of digital assets I have on my computer. (I'm already familiar with C1's image enhancement capability!!)
On the other hand, given all the complaints I find here, should I really entrust said assets to what appears to be a very flakey Media Pro? And so many comment here that PhaseOne has been rather neglectful in bringing MP up to contemporary standards.
And I surely do not wish to risk having my digital files corrupted by a buggy program!!!

If you don't use MP or it's predecessor yet my advice would be: don't start with it!

Sad to say, I have come to the same conclusion. 🙄
I'd think PhaseOne would either pay attention to the extremely dedicated users here (who have far too much patience in my opinion), or just officially drop the program.
Well, that's not my call. I'm keeping C1 (obviously), but now am investigating Lightroom. I had wished to keep my DAM & RAW development within one package. That's not to be.
We'll see if I like LR enough to keep with its management part....I can imagine over time that it will be increasingly more convenient to start using the RAW development features over time, and then what would I do with C1.
Sorry, just rambling here.0 -
I really don't see the point of using Lr for DAM only. It is sort of ok as a DAM, but it is designed as an integrated package. If you want to stick with CaptureOne, you might investigate PhotoSupreme. It's similar (but at the same time totally different) to MediaPro, but is actually better integrated with C1. MP is much faster though. 0 -

As far as using LR as a DAM only, that would indeed be silly. However LR's RAW conversion is quite good and in some cases better than C1.
I just finished a shoot a few weeks ago. Everything was edited in C1. There was a color issue that I just couldn't get straightened out. These were D800E files, shot at high ISO. I figured this was a good as I could get and just let it ride.
I then opened the same files in LR. It turned out that LR rendered these files much cleaner and with better color. I ended up editing them again, all in LR.
So what I'm saying is that having many tools to deal with photos is not a bad idea. Add to that Adobe lets you have LR and Photoshop for $10.00 a month, well thats three tools in the box.0
