You could give Idimager (idimager.com) a try. I'm a user of that program and it manages all my needs very well:

    - displays iiq-files as thumbs (of course, it can not convert iiq-files to big pictures)
    - metadata is stored in a database and can be synced into images if you want. As iiq is a raw-file-format, idimager won't write any metadata into the iiq-files but will create sidecar-files.
    - if you want metadata to be written into the files, just rename them to *.tif
    - idimager has a mechanism called "versioning". if you have converted a iiq-file to e.g. an jpg-file, you can let idimager recognise the latter one as a version of the first one. If you want, the metadata from the iiq-file is written to the jpg-file. Thus, the metadata-output of C1 is unimportant because the metadata is "restored" anyway

There is a great forum for idimager: forum.idimager.com. If you have any more questions on idimager, ask there. I do it sometimes, too. ;)

    Greetings
