Nothing works!!?

Hi all, I'm not new to photography but I am new to digital processing, I've had experiance with other processing software so I have an idea how it's all supposed to work. But it doesn't, I can get a file improted in to Phase One but when I try to edit it, nothing in the tool bars is available for me to use to edit the image. I've read the help files but I can't seem to find anything that looks like it will help.

Please don't make me ask my 8 year old daughter for help.

  Hello
  If You have an eye on every picture then You cat edit, just view.
  
  Only RAW files can be edited
  Files must not be read only (I guess thats Your problem)

  Thanks for the reply, you saved what's left of my male pride.
  
  I think the problem is I'm trying to edit a jpeg file, not sure why the files are coming over from the camera as a jpeg, I've set it to capture RAW only - it's a Dlux 4.
