Processed quality between V4 and V5
I've noticed that the files produced with V4 are sharper, brighter, and contain more colors that those produced by V5 using the same adjusted settings (as imported by V5). For example, a file from V4 contained 352601 unique colors while V5 had 348810. This is using the same proof and output profiles in both programs.
While not a factor here, I like the auto adjust functions for exposure, levels, and dynamic range better in V4 (Ctrl+F). Auto gave a great starting point, but in V5 I'm having to do more manual adjusting. I'm not sure I like the auto in V5 upping clarity to 10. User defined parameters with the auto adjust feature would be great.

Hey Coach,
Start a support case, get us some examples and we'd be happy to look into it.0 -
I've never been able to understand the support case system. It says I don't have a registered product, but when I try it doesn't show software (Capture One 3 which I upgraded to V4). So I just tried skipping that part, but now it wants my Serial number, is that the Capture One Pro Key or the Registration Code. It has an asterisk on the form so it appears necessary. I left it blank and it seemed to accept my case. 0 -
I commend PhaseOne on their quick response to my support case. For my first support case I probably shouldn't have gone with the quality difference issue, as they are so subtle its hard to notice. I did decide to use V5 for some indoor senior photos where the skin color tool saved the pics due to a lighting screw up, but I liked V4 results for the outdoor shots of the same senior.
The moral of my story, based on suggestions from the support case results, is to save my thousands of photos as Tiffs for accurate results (those will be about 120 MB each using my 1Ds Mark III), use a Mac (since that's what PhaseOne did their testing with on my files), and create a style to get the version 4 levels back (since auto adjustments, Ctrl+F, aren't as close anymore). I'm not sure how styles can automatically adjust itself based on the exposure of different photos like auto adjustments did in V4.0 -
I too made some testa with the C1 V5 test version. I processed a RAW file with settings entered in version 4 and then I made some new settings with a new variant of the same picture. Now the automatical exposure value was negative and version 4 gave me a positive value (0.4). All the other functions seem to work in the same way as version 4.
I was very astonished when I saw that version 5 is producing TIF files which are about 2Mb smaller then the files of version 4. Why that?0 -

Phase One also sell hardware. These parts of the form pertain to digital backs. It's a shame that that's not made clear on the form as it trips up many first time or infrequent support case initiator. Maybe I'll raise a support case about it 😄0
