Is it only possible to import Files from a Compact Flash Card with a Cardreader?

As far as I know: yes.

It is only possible to import from sources that Identify themselves as Flash Drives, Card readers, DVD, etc.
Other devices may mount on the desktop but are technically seen as devices which Capture One can import from. It basically breaks down to a permissions conflict.

Sorry, this is confusing. Did you mean to say "Other devices may mount on the desktop but are not technically seen as devices which Capture One can import from."?

If I understand this discussion correctly, C1 does not permit downloading images directly from a camera. Correct?

If the camera has a mode where it acts as a Card Reader when attached to the computer, and the computer recognizes it as such, you can download direct from the Camera. If the Camera does NOT identify itself as a Card Reader then you cannot download from the camera.
There is no Yes/No answer here, it is different from Camera to Camera.
