Building the fastest Mac for capture

I need to build the fastest capture machine I can for shooing to and generating previews and focus. From my understanding processing and hard drive speed are most important. What about GHz and RAM. I use the P45 and P25 backs.
1. Is it worth the money for the 8 core over the quad?
2. What about 3GHz compared to 2.66 GHz?
3. How about RAM 2,4,8? How Important is RAM to C1
4. What about the 15000 rpm hard drive?

Please get back to me a.s.a.p. I have a big multi day shoot starting Monday

  1. No
  2. You will only see faster processing speed.
  3. It is not important for CO, it important for PS. 2 is fine but get 4 for PS.
  4. Now we talking, writing files to hard drive is important. Get fast drive. Check write speed in stead of RPM.

  Thank you, this is helpful information. So there's going to be no noticeable speed with the 3GHz over the 2.66? That will save me some money. How do I check a drive for write speed? I'm going to purchase new drives today and need to know what to buy. Do you have any suggestions?

  There will be difference in processing time but I do not think it will make any difference in capture speed.

  Is it interesting to buy an 8800GT or the HD2600xXT is enough ?
