... - server based with 10 licences, but we have frustrating problem that I need to get around first.

Off topic i think but you know MP1 is not a client-server application?
In other words, with 10 licenses you can install 10 stand allone MP1 environments..

We've found that putting the catalog on the server and giving people the Reader worked very well for us.

Some jpegs are not importing keywords even though these images have keywords that are visible in Finder (Apple + I) and also in Photoshop. In fact, if these images are opened in Photoshop and resaved, and are then imported, the keywords then import correctly!

First a question to assure i understand your problem:
When you say 'Some jpges are not importing keywords', do you mean the following scenario?

In MP1 | Action | Sync Annotations | Tick the option 'Export annotations to original files' + tick the suboptions 'Include custom fields', 'catalog sets', and 'include hierachical keywords' ? (don't tick 'include GPS fields', this is a know problem)

If this not describing your situation correct, please explain.
When it does you maybe could send some of the problematic files to see if we, the people on this forum, can reproduce it on our systems.

    Hi Roelof,

    No, I didn't mean that.

    Apologies for not being clearer.

I have an empty catalog and I simply drag a jpeg image file onto the catalog, it imports the single image but does not import the keywords that ARE visible in Info (Apple + I).

    Does that help?

Ok, thank you for clearing it up 😊

The keywords should indeed become visable in MP after draging the image onto it. Earlier you wrote that some images do have this problem but others not. Is it random or are the same images affected every attempt?

Did you trie to import such an image into a brand new catalog? (one at a time, new and clean catalog)

Did you trie to import with the option File | Import Items in stead of dropping it onto the catalog?

Are the files in a folder? I know there were problems in the past with images on the root.

Did you trie to import images with the option 'update folder now' ? (Assuming that the folder is already in MP)

I'm willing to test some of your images in my MP and/or EM environment. Of course i will let you know the results.

    Hi Roelof,

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I tried importing into a brand new catalog. I only tried by dragging it into the catalog and unfortunately, I will not be on site with the client until next week now so cannot try your other suggestions.

I have uploaded the file I was testing to here:

This is the only one that I know hasn't worked, but the client informs me there are others.

I would certainly be interested if you can see the keywords before importing it and whether you can see them once it is imported.

    Many thanks for your help.

Hmmm, strange. All my attemts resulting in a (correct?) view of the keywords:

    EM2_Win7_64bit:

When i look at the metadata with Exifviewer is see the same keywords so i think the view in MP and EM is correct:

The only thing i can think of is that you are on apple platform. I think it's best to post a support call for this one. You could reference to this thread.

Maybe someone else on the forum (on apple) could reproduce your problems?

    Hi Roelof,

Thank you so much for giving that a try for me. Interesting that it works ok (as expected) on a PC!

Does anyone out there have a copy of MediaPro on the OSX platform, and could try importing the image in the previous post?

    Many thanks

I haven't upgraded to MediaPro yet due to my concerns with MP, but I tried EM2 on Snow Leopard, and couldn't see any keywords.

I've checked the EXIF data with ExifTool and the keywords are there as IPTC data.

Yep, I think there is definitely a bug with the OSX version.

Also, OSX can't seem to open a catalog created on a PC.

    So, the workaround is:

    1. Create Catalog on a Mac
    2. Import the images that are already keyworded on a PC to the new catalog
    3. New images (yet to be keyworded) can then be loaded on either a PC or a MAC

    And that seems to work.

Sadly, I can't find any other product that ticks all the boxes required! Whilst I'm not happy recommending a product that has such obvious flaws, at least there is a workaround.

Thank you everyone (excluding MediaPro support) for your help.
