Speed of operation of C1; Preferences, RAM, Scratch Disk...?
I'm Windows 8, fully up to date. 16GB RAM installed.
Any advice on setting of preferences for best performance?
I have allocated 8Gb Virtual Memory to my C: drive, and 16Gb to one of the other two drives on this machine, via System. Recommended or not? (To be honest, I'm not sure if it's making any difference.)
Any other advice? e.g. regarding settings on video card?
Many thanks.

Not sure...
I think OpenCL for 'auto' is good
Work from the SSD, if you have one. I store most of my stuff on magnetic hard drives and work on the images located on these old drives. I believe it would be faster to transfer my sessions folders to SSD and work on them there. When I am finished, move my sessions folders back to old and slow HDD. However, I don't do this. I hop around from session to session as my interest changes.. and I am happy enough with the speed.
Of course, as you described, I have any scratch disk or page file directed to the SSD.
It is very possible, 8 & 16 GB page files will not speed things up. Depends on how much RAM you have in use.. the scratch/page disk/files may not be used very much.
If you have a large SSD, great. If space is getting tight, it may speed things up to set a more moderate scratch/page size and use the recovered space to store a session being currently edited or the catalog DB.0
