Deleted files not in Recycle Bin

I have C1 4.x and now trialling 5.0.1. I always use the delete key to trash files. I have now found that the deleted files (within C1) are not appearing in the system recycle bin (cannot locate them on the disk). The "session trash folder" is set correctly to "Recycle Bin" and nothing appears in that session folder. Seems the files are being permanently deleted. Has anyone found similar or have an answer to this? Same thing occurs if I instead click on the trash can button. Thanks in advance.

    You should not do that. In CO5 you can move to trash (session trash folder is regular folder on disk) or delete permanently. The system's Recycle Bin is not used in CO since 4.5 IIRC.

    Thanks for taking the time to respond Paul. I've set up as you suggested and my deleted files are being saved in the new folder I set up. This was a change that I missed. The new C1 5.0.1 installation set the system recycle bin as the default session trash folder. The user manual didn't seem overly clear to me in this regard. Cheers Brian.

    Exactly. It is also stated as such on page 25 of the User Guide! In Windows, the "OS Trashcan" IS THE Recycle bin. However, I have the same problem you do. Files are not recoverable when the session trash can is the Recycle bin, even though that is the default when installed. You're not alone. Annoying.

    The manual applies to the Mac version, which might be part of the confusion regarding deletion of files. You and user Brian have apparently a common experience that the Windows' Recycle Bin is used for deleting files. I can not reproduce that behavior on a pristine WinXP system with either CO 5.0.1 and 5.0.1 Pro. In fact, the Library tool does not allow me to select the Recycle Bin as the session Trash folder. In both the Pro and the non-Pro version the deleted files go the the session Trash folder unless I use the Delete Permanently command by default. I can select another folder if I like.

    Have you tried to delete the *.col* file in the Capture One Library folder (which contains the default session information)?

    Maybe you want to provide more details about which delete command you use, version of Windows, CO Pro or non-Pro, previous version of CO and on you determine what your trash folder is and are you able to select another folder as trash folder?

  • Permanently deleted user
    I ran into this a couple days ago to my concern. (although nothing is lost as I keep backups, like most folks do)

    I accidentally hit the delete key a couple times while madly doing other functions on a few images. Not sure why I had such fumble fingers. I noticed it after two of my images disappeared and tested on one image and then went to the Recycle bin to get the two back (the third test images was a throw away anyway), but they were not there - I searched my entire HDD for them.

    I too have my default my trash folder as the recycle bin in WinXP.

    What puzzled me also is why a solo Del key push deleted the image. In my keyboard preferences I have no delete function of any kind set to solo Del key push, they are all key combos like shift-Del or cntrl-Del.

    I've had the same problem since the first release of 5.0. There's also no confirmation dialog unless you are deleting more than one file at a time. Watch out where your cursor is when you hit delete. I lost a process recipe (again without confirmation) when I was expecting to delete the current image on the screen. It would also be nice to have a easier method of restoring a deleted file. Finding and dragging is a pain.
