I'm using C1v4 with my Canon 40D and I am very happy with the new release. I like the new program more than the prior version 3.7.x version that I had been using.

I also own Adobe Lightroom, CS3 Design (includes Photoshop) and DxO Optics Pro. I prefer C1 for my routine conversions. I would like to see the vibrance and fill light functions of ACR/Lightroom integrated into C1. Also just a touch of green and red on the tint slider to indicate correction direction would reduce the effort using this control.

Anyway, just wanted to offset some of the negativity about the new release by giving another point of view.

Actually, The fill light function is already in C4, within the Shadow/Highlight tool, or I believe C4 may call it the High Dynamic Range tool.

Also, those of us who have been very negative on C4 thus far aren't doing so just out of spite, although some of that may enter into the equation at times due to the way our ideas and suggestions were so totally ignored during beta testing. The main purposes behind any negative reports are to 1. make others aware of the pitfalls before thy spend their hard earned money on a deficient product, and 2. to make PO aware that things need to be changed. No doubt, C4 has many wonderful features, but it still has a long way to go IMO before it can truly be called an "upgrade".

    hi

for me C1 v4 is a truly upgrade. I do not need pro features even if I am a pro photgrapher.

I found my workflow and its now faster than 3.7.7. Do love also the Highlight and Shadow feature. A wonderful improvement.

C1 should be in primary a raw converter and not going the way like Lightroom. Because that feature is what C1 is about. I really like the files convertied over the files from Camera Raw 4.3.

In case of the layout and menu points in C1 v4, there is nothing wrong. After some minutes working and exploring the software I don't see any difficult.

A company like PO cannot make it right for all people. Its like cars. Some loves a faster car other need a more volumed car for family. If someone is not agreed with the workflow in C1 v4 he or she can change to another program. But should not make the software in this forum bad.

For my own preferences C1 v4 is the best.

Why do people keep saying this?
The 5 or 6 main moans about v4 have nothing to do with 'pro features', they are fairly trivial features that were in v3 LE and did not make it into v4 despite many requests at the beta stages. Trivial features that made the C1 workflow great in v3.
Nothing whatsoever to do with PRO anything!

I agree, there is no "perfect" solution, but neither should you go backwards. While I agree C4 sports many wonderful new features, PO didn't have to the reduce or REMOVE other VERY useful features. The features I mention have nothing to do with it being a Pro version. The features I'm talking about have to do with productivity, such as changing the F8 shortcut to Shft+Ctrl+B, which requires me to remove my hand from the mouse and remove my eyes from the monitor, not once, but twice each time I use it. Using that new "shortcut" was costing me beteen 30-60 minutes A DAY in lost productivity, until I finally gave up and reluctantly switched RAW Converters. I sincerely hope PO comes around and modifies some of the stupid impulse moves and reinstates the useful features that made C3 so very productive in their first update so I can afford to come back into the fold. Anxiously waiting, but not holding my breath!

Why not just get a simple function key utility and program Shift+Ctrl+B into F8? Then you will be set.

Something I have been considering along those lines is this device called X-keys:

You can give the keys custom labels (eg: yellow/blue keys for colour balance etc), and can place it wherever it's easiest for you.

This sounds good. I didn't know such a thing existed. Any suggestions as to such products?

Still, it's very irritating to have to go this route to overcome the loss of existing very good features that were "thrown out" with this "upgrade"!!

I don't use one of these utilities, but if you google "keyboard mapping" you will get a lot of options. Here are a couple of links to get you started:

    http://www.download32.com/change-keyboa ... tware.html
    http://www.sharewareconnection.com/titl ... apping.htm
    http://change-keyboard-mapping.download ... 4free.com/

You can create as many keystroke commands as you want to optimize your work flow. Maybe you can create easier to use commands/keystokes. Cost of these programs is either zero or very cheap. Good luck.

Thanks, you are right. I had been using the lighting function in DxO and the fill light function within ACR/Lightroom. After some direct comparisons with ACR, I can get good results with the Shadow slider.

Just a tip for those that miss some of the keyboard commands, I have a Microsoft keyboard with the scroll wheel and a Wacom Intuos table. Using the tablet in combination with the Mouse wheel is a nice combination. For example, you can hover the tablet stylus over the slider you wish to adjust and just rotate the mouse wheel. Very fast and easy.
