Thumbnails Painfully Slow to Load/Process

I am running Capture One PRO 3.7.4 on a dual 2.5 G5 with 4gig of ram and am shooting a Canon 1Ds and do not remember the thumbnails taking this long to load ever previously....any thoughts? Then when they all finally load(say 100 in the session) when I am on a thumbnail it seems as if the image takes a longer than normal time to actually come up and finish loading so the image can be previewed normally without the image being out of focus like it is when the beachball is processing. Any thoughts or suggestions to what is going on? This is really tough to work this way and hoping something can fix this. Thanks.

    I actually had to try and figure something out and installed applejack utility to clean up my system's cache and it seemed to fix the problem. You simply install the utility and boot up to single user mode and clean the cache.....voila!
    It is night and day from where it was and is back to its normal self speed wise. @.
