    Hi Maggie12
    No, not at all!
The default is 50 -50 (luminance and color)
What kind of file are you processing?

    Hi,

after your post I checked the behavior of C1 7 and yes, if you have a High ISO File, a high amount of Noise Suppression will be applied to the image automatically.

You don't notice the Noise Reduction on ISO 50 or 100 images but on ISO 3200 from a P40+ back or a 25600 ISO File of a Canon 5D Mark III the standard 50/50 setting will apply a high amount of Noise suppression.
The slider seems to be automatically linked to the ISO setting and I assume camera type too, but I would agree with you that the inital setting 50/50 is not to my liking. I use Noise reduction in rare cases and often like it more to deal with the Noise then the watercolor dreamy effect.

To compliment C1 7 I have to say that it seems that the noise reduction works very well even on my Canon 5 D III. But I would prefer a 0/0 setting which i can adjust manually or make myself a preset... But you can work other way round and build you a preset with 0/0 settings, which I probably will do now after you noticed this.

With previous version of C1 (4, 5 and 6) you could save a default of noise reduction, sharpness, etc...that was applied for each raw file you opened in C1.

Now with v7 the default setting is set for the model of your camera, for example I have a default noise and sharpness setting for my D3, another one for the D800E and and another one for my Ricoh GRDIII compact camera... It is already a great improvement, of course it would be even better to set default noise reduction setting for different iso value or range...it would save a lot of time.

Also do not forget to use version 7 of raw processing because if you open your old files already opened with version 6 you will stay in this raw processing and you won't notice improvements. For what I already notice with very noisy files the improvements are huge, it can now compete with Lightroom 4 which is a reference.

I understood from the tutorial videos that yes, noise reduction was based on camera one uses, but no matter which files I am processing the settings is always 50/50 (luminance/color). I am processing files from 5D Mark III and 1Ds Mark III. The images from 5D Mark III at ISO 100 are noiseless why is the noise reduction applied? And then when I am at high ISO such as 1600 the images get the watercolor effect. At 1600 ISO images from 5D Mark III are not that noisy but yet you end up with a crappy image. I am going to make a preset so NO NOISE reduction is applied.

I have 2 cameras (5D Mark III and 1Ds Mark III) the noise reduction settings CO7 applies are the same for both cameras. Yes, I am using engine 7.

Yes it is normal at the beginning you have first to set luma and chroma for exemple to 0 and then save as default setting for each of your camera. Then when you will work on a new set of pictures (for folders that have already been seen or used with C1 you will need to copy and paste the setting) the default setting you previously decided will automatically be applied.
Sorry my C1 is set to french but you will understand :

It also works for sharpness, advanced noise reduction, and other settings I did not kept in mind.
