Create a support case and provide details about your system.
    - Time Zone
    - Region setting
    - Date/Time format

It may also be advisable to reset these on your mac as it has a small preference file that can become corrupt, storing one value but displaying another.

    Hey Glenn,
I found your support case and it looks like, pending a few other tests, we're onto something.
Trouble is we haven't seen this in another instance but yours.
There is a chance that no one else has noticed this in their workflow in the US West Coast so, should anyone else in California stumble across this thread we would appreciate some more feedback.

I have a similar problem. Using Nikon NEF files, CO8.1, D4, D800 -- Importing from external hard drive.
and the dates I get are: 01/011970 3.00:00 AM
However if I first load into Lightroom and then import from LR I believe the dates are correct. I'll have to double check that.... I don't want to do this though - I want to import directly from either an external card or hard drive.
    Please help.... Thanks.

I would suggest that you create a Support Case and mention this thread to ensure that you get an early official support response.
