I'm sure you won't miss me...
Well, I gave C-1 six weeks and more than 30 events. Your lack of phone support, unstable Win7 64 version 5.1 and complete over-complicating of the ever so beautiful C1 v3x - I'm now going to go to try Light Room. You all missed the boat in producing a simply program for power users like Raw Shooter - why did you make this so complicated?
So you know the issues on my i5, 4bg ram, 80 gig SSD, 1TB machine:
No phone support
Rediculous time to write preview files
no quick proofs
Constant loss of film curves
renaming files and having to re-start C1 to read the renamed files
Random variables added to sections of event or entire event for no reason (that anyone could explain)
Random rotation of images
Too Slow in processing of final images
and so much more.
I wouldn't normally post negative info like this, but with no one to call and speak to.... oh well.
☹️ Let me know if you ever un-clog your software. JACK ☹️

Hah! If Cap One is too much for you to understand, Lightroom will kill you.
And don't think the support experience is any better on Planet Adobe either. Indeed, in my experience, Phase One's support arrangements are excellent if you actually use them by raising a support case.
Sorry, Jack, but the problem here isn't with overly-complicated, bloated software...
Oh - and on my Win 7 64 bit machine, Cap One 5 is utterly bombproof.0 -
Why is it such a big deal to speak to someone? 0 -
Hi Jack,
can't say I blame you for throwing in the towel, it is really quite annoying that C1 can't quite seem to get it right?
But I must say, I do love the outcome of my C1 work flow and this is the reason I stick with it, I also agree fully with you about the simplicity (and reliability of version 3), it's greatly missed.
I tried light room but I just did not like the whole work flow, I wish you better luck with it, at least it works correctly out of the box.
All the best,
Dave...0 -

Well, time is money for one thing. You are not likely to find a knowledgeable person to chat with at Adobe either...
PhaseOne provides communication with VERY knowledgeable people as well as this forum for users...Paul E is the reason I hang out here, very knowledgeable guy and very forthcoming with correct answers.
Some of what you see is the more powerful features of V4 and V5...for instance Quickproofs have been replaced by the much more powerful and usefull Web gallery. Despite the name, if you watch the tutorial, you will see that you can find proofs in a folder also as well as the web gallery...so quickproofs are quicker with more options. Better, not just different. Watching all the tutorials is probably a great idea before reaching for a phone.
Neither PhaseOne nor Adobe supports an OS, and some of your usability issues relate to that. Turning off Windows search and indexing (which you should do with an SSD in the mix anyway) are a good begining. Properly set up for a power user Windows 7 presents me with no problems, nor does my other install under Vista 64. PhaseOne has continuously improved speed with upgrades.
This is not to say you shouldn't move to Lightroom, but it's not without a learning curve also....and IMHO no benefit other than a cottage industry of seminars to explain that.0 -
Jack,
Don't be so dramatic... of course we will miss you and we are sorry that we couldn't meet all your needs. But like the the Stones said, "You can't always get what you want". But I would like to address some of the points you take issue with if I may...[quote="jackhartzman" wrote:

Not true at all. If you own a Phase One Back, you get all the phone support you want. Heck, depending on what you bought you might have my cell phone number (can you say the same for Adobe?). If you bought only the software we do our best to offer Phone Support when we have time, this often isn't possible or requires a scheduled time to accommodate both parties. It also depends on your issue, if you Microsoft OS is corrupt I can't very well call you to walk you through something Microsoft needs to assist you with. The online support system however is always there for you.[quote="jackhartzman" wrote:

Define rediculous. Every RAW converter has some aspect comparable to a render time.[quote="jackhartzman" wrote:
no quick proofs
Not true as of Capture One 5.1.2[quote="jackhartzman" wrote:
Constant loss of film curves
How do you mean?[quote="jackhartzman" wrote:

That can be attributed to many things... faulty OS permissions access for example.[quote="jackhartzman" wrote:

?[quote="jackhartzman" wrote:

"Random" is a word that doesn't exist in Software, unless by design. There is always a reason, be it metadata or corruption.[quote="jackhartzman" wrote:

Define "Too Slow".[quote="jackhartzman" wrote:

Anything I can help with I would be happy to look into.[quote="jackhartzman" wrote:

In addition to all of that it's worth pointing out that you never created a support case to give us the opportunity to help you (or at least not under your current forum account). Also, the only other topics that you addressed on the Forum were related to Batch Processing, which it seems you got quite a bit of help with. The other post was met with equal generosity and suggestions for help, for example viewtopic.php?f=20&t=8619&p=37354#p37378.
I'm not trying to jump on your thread here Jack but I do take it personally when people accuse Phase One of lacking in support when its all I do, day in and day out. We take pride in our work and are always here to help customers... but that's only if you give us a chance.0 -
My latest issue while trying to find a workflow w/ C-1:
During a batcj process of 100's of images, randomly several processed images show up w/ a black border on the right side and bottom. When I enlarge the images they show up as a streak. I get a warning message saying "Film curve lost".
Love to show a sample but there is no easy way to show the images here.

It's very easy.
This:
Gives you this:

Bueller?
Also, a quick google search can give you something like this--->http://tinypic.com/
Which will upload, host and even code the image for you. All you have to do is upload the image and paste the example.
For example...

Have you considered that maybe this is just you? There are thousands of people using C1 without the problems you're describing. Time for a wipe and reinstall of Windows? 0
