focus mask - not working?

I'm looking at raw files - click on View/Focus Mask, and nothing happens - no green zones on any images. The Preferences for focus mask are at defaults. What am I missing?

    Try viewing at 100% to see if anything appears.

    Also set the preferences for Threshold to the lowest setting (200) and the Opacity to the Highest setting (500). What do you see?

    What sort of images are you working with?
