Getting Images into C1

I have been using C1 for PC for a couple weeks. I just added a Mac to my computer quiver and wanted to begin using C1. However the initial step of copying the files onto my Mac I opened the cf card reader and instead of just viewing the files, C1 appears to need/want to import them. Is this a correct understanding of the process, and is this the correct workflow for getting the images into C1?

    Yes, this correct. First import your images from your card to your computer (either with Capture One 4 or in another way). Next, work from there with CO4.
    CO4 does not write to the images but instead creates help files for saving adjustments and the preview in a sub folder of the image folder. This is done better on the hard disk than on your memory card.
