Import slowness

I have a catalog (with files stored on an external drive) with about 61000
I have had many problems and i was advised to create a new catalog
Since I cant import the 61000 all at once (C1 crushes) I am selecting portion of my photos without exceeding 10000 images per import

I have created a new catalog and i have imported 8000 images (195GB) (with files stored on current location)

It took 8:30 second to scan the photos and about 45 to import them

when I tried using Lr 5 beta and with identical setting,it lasted
7 second to scan the files and about 4:40 to import them

What i am trying to find out is:
Is the difference due an issue between C1 7 and my Hardware or just simply because capture one is not as good at importing?
