C1's latest $ policy regarding upgrade from 6.4 to say 6.5?
Hi, I am a long time C1 user but have not followed C1 news and/or forum for a while and have a few questions please. And sorry if this information is readily available somewhere.
When I bought C1 3.x.x way back when, we were allowed something like 3 updates/upgrades without charge. In my case for example I was able to upgrade all the way to 4.x.x without paying anything extra. Now with the sales going on I am thinking about purchasing C1 6.4.4, but I don't want to buy 6.4.4 and then have it become obsolete that requires me to pay $ once Windows 8 comes out and there are bugs with 6.4.4, etc. My questions:
1. What is C1's latest policy regarding how many upgrades users are allowed?
2. What is considered an upgrade? For example 6.4.4 to 6.4.5? In the old days not all changes are counted towards the upgrade, is that still true?
3. For a new license, how many computers are allowed? My old license allows 3, is that still true?
Thanks in advance.

COne's policies are clearly stated in the TOS....and as with all software that is subject to change...especially over the decade you're speaking of. Cone is currently 6.x...the next paid upgrade will be to 7.x.
You can assume sales generally preceed a new release, again some what consistently. It is also less expensive to upgrade from a current version typically.
With the new licensing policy and internet activation, you can install on more than two CPU's, but only two can be activated simultaneously...that is under your control.0 -
- -A standard Key sold for Capture One 3.x Pro included 2 Free Upgrades and cost 25% more.
-A standard Capture One 3 Pro Key was valid to activate Capture One 3, 4 and 5 PRO on up to two computers.
-A current Capture One 6 PRO Key is 25% cheaper (even cheaper during sales) but is only valid for Capture One 6, there are no free upgrades.
-Any version of Capture One 6 is considered an "Update" and not an upgrade, Updates are free (6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, etc...)
-A standard Key is valid for activation on two computers.0 -
Thanks John and Drew for the helpful replies.
Drew, so 3.x.x license holder could actually upgrade all the way to 5.2.1 for free? I thought I could only go to 4.8.3.0 -
Not quite: A 3.X.X PRO license holder could upgrade all the way to 5.2.1 PRO for free.
A basic 3.X.X (LE?) license holder only had one free upgrade - so they could upgrade to 4.X.X Express for free but no further.
