Only sidecar files instead of session/catalog/subfolders
Hi
I am a longtime user of DxO Optics Pro. In DxO, all RAW file edits are stored in a sidecar file (e.g. "photo.nef.dop" for the RAW file "photo.nef"). I manually organize RAW files by date and JPG outputs by event, all on a shared Dropbox. With DxO sidecar files, this is very easy.
How can I work similarly with Capture One Pro? I don't want a central catalog (because I organize and move files manually), and I don't want the session subfolders with Caches etc. spread around in every RAW folder. Just the edits in a sidecar file.
Thanks,
Daniel

That is not possible with CO. It is either catalog, that adds no sidecars or subfolders, or the sessions, that add 1 folder pr image-folder.
This approach has been chosen to not pollute the image-folder it self with side-cars.
If you want an easy way of moving your session based image with settings I suggest using the Export -> Originals option.0 -
For what it is worth ...
I was also a long time Dxo user, but got tired of dealing with the side cars when I backed up my raw images. At first I backed up the images and the side cars but realized that as time passed those side car files were of less and less importance since new functionality (like ClearView) made them increasingly obsolete with new versions of the software. In the end I began deleting the side cars to clean up the folder structure when creating backups.
I have found the C1 catalog/session information a bit easier to use. I can either include the catalog or not when I back up the images and now don't have to go through each folder deleting the extra files.
Another reason I abandoned Optics Pro, as much as I liked it, was the software's inability to recognize updated images when I called an external editor like PhotoShop or PhotoLine to take care of specific issues not handled by C1. Optics Pro almost never recognized the newly updated file on my Mac (perhaps Windows is different) and it was painful having to go through the steps necessary for force OP to re-read and update both the thumbnails and the images. C1 was not much better (although there was an explicit Refresh command) until 8.2 and now C1 is very, very good about externally edited images. So good, in fact, that I have now stopped using OP completely.
If only C1 would expand their lens distortion database to include some of my main lenses ...0
