MediaPro - Desasterious start of version 1
[20110512.1414]
First I was happy to receive the announcement that Media Pro is finally ready in its first new version.
After trying to get MP1 running for more then 4 hours in different combinations (preference files moved, deleted, several restarts, deactivating several extensions, etc.) I tried the a mentioned "clean up" w/ AppleJack after deleting(!) the EM2 preference and support files.
But then I read the forum again to avoid more bad experience. And voila …
And as an answer to my former support case request …
… I received:
Besides the provided solution isn’t working — and I replied that …
… this is contradictory. First the "new" Media Pro application crashes during launch — maybe because of the access to the EM2 preference files — and than I have to delete the EM2 preference files manually so that MP1 can start and I loose the possibility to still work w/ the working(!) EM2?
I bought iView MediaPro, I bought the upgrades, I bought EM1 and the upgrade to EM2, I was happy to hear that after stalling at Microsoft finally a pro photography company bought the software. But now? The first version from PhaseOne — which seems isn’t a re-write of the original application, more a paint-over — isn’t even starting at all and even if (to mention other forum entries) it crashes a lot and is slower.
Besides that the communication w/ the users and customers of the software is lacking valid information and transparency at all, the "What’s new" is (1) PR talk and more important (2) wrong:
= PhaseOne added some new raw importers
= Added the new "Capture One" rendering engine — the mentioned "other stuff" isn’t new.
= Added the capability to have catalogue files greater than 2 GB — and again: the mentioned "other stuff" isn’t new. And, for worse, the application is now slower then the previous EM2.
= No new at all. Same HTML-Templates like in EM2.
I know it’s a heavy legacy to get the bugs out of a software this age, and coming from Microsoft too, but at least you could be more transparent to your customers any maybe think about making the "first" new version without beeing a paid upgrade — but more important: w/o nasty bugs or slower performance and telling right what is really new.
I think it’s time to do your homework — and if you need help (eg. beta testers) please say so. But MP1 isn’t close to prime time.
That’s it for now — I stick w/ EM2 and would love to test a working(!) MP1 if possible.

If you are concerned with deleting existing preference files then simply copy them to a new location and remove them from the current location, you can always put them back later. We are accessing these files because we are trying to use the information to properly set up Media Pro to your liking.

MediaPro 1.0.0.49135 won’t start at all … after the "Try Out" dialogue, there is not even a crash dialogue; I had to manually "force quit" the app
… I received:
Please proceed with the following;
Go into Home>Library>Application Support. Delete these 2 folders: Expression Media 2 & Phase One Media Pro
Go into Home>Library>Preferences. Delete these 2 files: com.microsoft.expressionmedia2.plist & com.phaseone.mediapro.plist
