The use of C1 4 on Mac OS X
I am very confused about the use of C1 4 on Mac OS X. The use is so much different than in C1 3.5 Pro and other Mac applications.
In C1 3.5 I could select multiple pictures and klick on the gear wheel to start batch processing. In Capture One Version 4 I have to hold the Shift-Command-D keys. Very intuitive - right?
Giving multiple picture the same rating is impossible. Usually on a Mac I would select multiple pictures and then klick on right mouse button and rate the selected pictures. This doesn't work. It applies the rating only to the pictures that was selected first.
Other issue I noticed which is maybe a little bit off topic: I can't control the slider controls with the arrow key on my keypad.
Maybe I am missing something?

Yes! 😂
What you missed (after reading The Modifier PDF; I saw you posted the same question in the Sticky thread on Batch processing) are the following two pieces of information.
1. For Mac, Shift is not the only Modifier key. For Rating and Trashing multiple images you need to use Option key as modifier, not the Shift key. The menu (see Adjustments, Rating for example) change accordingly when you hit the Option key. So, Option+3 gives all selected images *** (3) stars. The interface of CO4 will be tweaked so this may change over time (or not).
2. The rational behind the modifier key is not explained very clear in The Modifier PDF (IMHO). It says "Capture One 4 offers the possibility of editing more images at one time in a number of different functions." without further explaining the concept.
In my words: in any selection of images (by rating or manual selection or in another way) you are able to view, adjust and process them both individually as well as a group. Within each selection there is one Primary Selected image (bold white border) where other selected have a thin white border. Without modifier key only the primary selected is affected, and with that key, all selected are.
CO4 has many changes over CO3. It is a new program, not just an update. It takes some time to get used to. Hope this helps. More questions? You know where to leave them.
Oh yeah, are you really using CO 3.5? I mean, we are a few years later now with 3.7.8 (no offense).0 -
Paul,
thanks for your reply!
I read this Modifier PDF and being honest, I din't understand it! Then I looked in the manual in the chapter about short cuts.
The strength of Mac OS is having easy to use user interfaces. And there are rules how an user interface should behave on Mac OS. To make multiple selections you press on Windows the STRG-key and on Mac the Apple (CMD) Key.
Finally I realized that C1 Version 4 doesn't behave like C1 3.7 Pro. I am using it for many mounths without the need reading the manual! 😂

One of the big differences between 3.7 and 4.0 is that 3.7 is intuitive and easy to navigate whereas 4.0 is not. When I switch between the two I cannot describe just how much more pleasant 3.7 is to use, at least it is for me. I've been playing with Aperture 2.0 and while it is light years ahead of C1 in terms of utility, to me nothing can beat the ease of 3.7 . . and that includes 4.0. 0
