Pausing preview generation

When doing an import into a catalog is it possible to pause the generation of the previews and restart them later?

    What would make it even better is to have the option to generate previews from the RAW file or to show the embedded jpegs.

    A embedded jegps from the RAW file is more than enough to cull, rate, and tag photos (think Photomechanic but built into C1)
