Crop toll dimension reset?

So whatever the crop area is, it always shows 1500x1000?

Check the output recipe. Is the size defined as 1500px long side? If yes, set it to 100% fixed.

Yes, no matter the crop area, it always shows 1500x1000px.

I am guessing you are talking about the export/process recipes? I'm not sure what recipe to check. I unchecked all of them and reset the tool. Then, it 'unexpectedly quit' and I submitted the error report. Let me relaunch...ok that has reset the dimensions.

So anytime I use an export or process recipe it will effect the crop tool? Is there away not to effect it? Seems like it should stand on its own without being subject to a setting from am entirely separate tool. Using the crop tool in editing should be an independent action from the export/process tools. When I edit the crop, I am trimming, when I export or process, I will change resolution and define dimensions. Two completely separate events and should be completely independent of each other. Maybe that should be something in suggestions.

    Thanks!

The way it works is that the crop tool shows dimensions based on the currently selected process recipe. My usual process recipe is scaled to 100%, so I generally see the full number of pixels in the crop tool. But I have other recipes - for instance I have one that uses "long edge 1000 px" and if that is the currently selected recipe, then my crop always displays 1000 px as the long edge of the frame. I could also set up process recipes based on the final print size I want, so perhaps 8 x 10 inches. In that case when I crop the tool would show me dimensions in inches, which could be useful.

The answer is to make sure you have at least one recipe where the scale is set to "Fixed 100%" and leave that as the selected one except when you want to do something else. If you want to do something like output images for the web at say 1000px maximum dimension, then don't do that by changing the current recipe. Set up a new one for that, and go back to your standard one when you are finished.

Lisa, think of things the other way around.

In most cases you are likely to be publishing the image for a different display ratio, whether "screen" or print, then the original image was captured in camera. So in effect there is little point in cropping an image to make it look right for your artistic preference without reference to the output format that will eventually be presenting it. And the option to quickly change to a different ratio (and have different crops on different variants of the same image) is very powerful.

BUT, to skip that feature set, just right click on the Crop tool icon (or open the Crop tool) and set the default to "Original" or, perhaps better for you needs, Unconstrained. Unconstrained is what I use most of the time.

I assume you are using C1 Pro?

    HTH.
