problem recognizing processing gear and que

I have Capture 1 Pro 5.1.1 open to a particular session and folder. When choosing variants, the processing GEAR icon is not shown in the window. How/where do I find it?

    Posting to cryptic to understand, for me at least. Connection between 'choosing variants' (how?) and the window that appears (what window?) is not clear.
