Update on DNGs?
Hi,
I haven't upgraded to CO7 as my current primary camera (Pentax K-01) only produces .DNG RAW files and Co7 generates a significant colour caste when reading them.
I note from the release notes for 7.1.1 that it says under the camera support section:
"Support for Linear DNG files (preliminary)"
Does anyone know if this will fix the problem? I've already exceeded my trial period so can't test myself.
Neil

Neil,
DNG and a Pentax K-01 file are the same in name only.
Support for your camera would be specifically listed if we could provide proper support. The Linear DNG is simply a result of supporting the Leica Monochrome cameras.0 -
Thanks Drew,
I suspect that Pentax K-01 and K30 users will continue to be left out in the cold then as neither of these use the .PEF RAW format and there probably isn't a high number of users of these cameras. (K-01 has already been discontinued without a successor).
Shame as I prefer Capture One to Aftershot Pro which is the only other Non-Adobe RAW processor which can handle large volume of RAW output, and it seems to be dying a death since it was bought from Bibble Labs by Corel.

Neil I would think the K-30 has a higher number of users than the K-01, but saying that Phase One can bring itself to support the DNG only cameras that Leica make M7, M8 & M9 which really must be niche user group compared to a mass produced Pentax aimed at the masses, perhaps its a snob value thing they have.
To be honest I've been waiting for the K-30 to be supported since it came out and yes we have been left out in the cold by Phase One. You can convert the Pentax DNG to Adobe DNG then CO7 will be able to use them, but saying that CO7 makes a lousy job of converting them as it is just basic support!
I also use the Olympus E-PL5 which only has preliminary support and to add insult to injury their latest update still lists it as preliminary support which means white balance is still less than steller and horrizons are bent like a banana with no way of correcting them in CO7.
So I have the CO7 Pro software that is virtually useless to me now, add to that the Media Pro software I have that is full of bugs and I am deeply disappointed in PhaseOne and myself for wasting my money with them.
My advise try Lightroom 4 it wil support your Pentax and any other camera you may purchase in the future and makes a good job of it, and forget about PhaseOne.0 -
Hi Paul,
Despite a degree of reluctance to join the Adobe crowd for RAW processing, the next time Adobe sends me a special offer (which as a PS Elements 11 user they probably will) on LR4 I shall probably take advantage of it. I've tried Free RAW processors such as RAW Therapee, the latest version of which I was quite impressed with but has some really basic RAW tools missing. At the moment only Aftershot Pro has the tools and speed of processing, but even it has some problems with the K-01 files as it can't recognise the first 40 or so pixel lines. But they haven't updated any support for any new cameras for almost a year.
