Adjustment layer choice locked into gradient option

In 7.2.2 Proon Mavericks, I have suddenly got a problem choosing the type of adjustment layer.

The box beside the dropdown arrow is highlighted in orange, and nothing happens when you click on the dropdown arrow, ie no list of option appear. and it seems locked into gradient layer. This was the last type of layer I used.

I have shut Phase one down and reopened it and tried different images but it remains locked.

I have tried resetting it, and deleting the tool and adding it back, but it remains locked.

I assume I have done something by accident, but I have no idea what it was.

Can someone help.
