Keywords not in catalog library after upgrade to version 9
After I have upgraded my library to version 9 of COP, the keywords of my images are not in the keywords library of the catalog, which is actually something I expected to upgrade to take care of.
I have managed to create a keyword library with all my hierarchical keywords, but still the 'old' keywords are not related to the keywords in this library ☹️.
How do I do that? Going over them manually would be impossible (with >20000 images). Any help would be appreciated!

This is how I did it:
1. Create a new empty catalog
2. In the info tab add the "Keyword Library" tool
3. In this tool click the three points besides "Catalog Keywords"
4. This gives you the option to "Import Keywords into Library" -> "Capture One Catalog / Session"
5. Choose your main catalog-file
6. This gives you a list off all keywords from this catalog in the "Keyword Library" tool
7. Now click again the three dots besides "Catalog Keywords"
8. Choose "Export Keyword Library..." and save the keyword-list to a file
9. Open your main catalog, and import the text-file by choosing "Keyword Text File..." in the dialog from step 4.0 -
Thanks for your reply! However, this does not solve my issue. This is (almost) the way I created my keyword library (thanks for your description in another thread), but still the keywords of the images are not linked to the keywords in the library. That is the issue I have.
It seems as if there are two sets of keywords, namely the one in the library, and the ones that are related to pictures. How to relate these, is my question.0 -
when I did the same, the connections between the library and the keywords stayed intact. But I imported into the catalog-branch of the keyword library tool, don't know if this makes a difference. 0 -
I did import my list in the catalog keyword library too, so that was not a difference, unfortunately. However, I have now copied your approach in all detail, and all is linked now.
During this process I did find something worrying, but probably only for me (and possibly other ex-Aperture users). The keywords imported from Aperture (in COP8) are not in the hierarchy anymore, or only partially ☹️. So that was the culprit, as I used the exported keyword hierarchy from Aperture to create my COP Keyword Library, thinking it would be the same. It was not ☹️. So I now have to recreate the hierarchy, but the good news is that I have ensured that my keywords are unique, so that is perhaps cumbersome, but not impossible.
Johannes, thanks for your help, much appreciated.0 -
you're very welcome

There are 2 webinars on Wednesday 6th Jan that will cover Keywords activity in detail.
Given the number of posts on this subject matter in recent weeks I assume they will be well attended and Mr. Grover will be kept very busy with questions!

I have exactly the same issue. After reporting this to PO support, they did finally come back to me and acknowledged that this is a bug which they are able to reproduce. So we simply have to wait for a fix at this point. 0 -
Although it is possible to do some edits in the keywords library, I also do get a lot of errors, and sometimes my system is very very very slow when dragging a keyword into another (need to wait for hours before I get feedback). I do have an old Mac with 'only' 4Gb, but for keyword management that should be no issue. I have raised several cases for this, and I hope this will be fixed soon. 0 -
...and sometimes my system is very very very slow when dragging a keyword into another (need to wait for hours before I get feedback).
Same issue here, even on a brand new iMac 5k (late 2015) with 24GB RAM.
C1 hangs for about 15min when dragging a keyword onto another one or when I tried to delete a keyword from the library.
Strange thing is that after waiting for the end of the hanger, the keyword drag&drop worked smoothly - until I restarted C1.
There are more strange things going on, like I managed to have the same keywords twice (case-sensitive), eg. 'food' and 'Food'.
According to the latest webinar on keywords, that shouldn't be possible in C1.
Furthermore the new Keyword Library tool shows keywords that are not shown by the Filter tool.
I have opened a support request and sent them my database for analysis, but didn't get a reply yet. Let's see how it develops...0 -
Ah too bad! Now you take away my rationale for buying a new Mac! 😊
OTOH, good that I am not the only one, so it is more likely that this will be solved.0 -

I've reported the same performance issues regarding managing keywords in December. Very disappointing that 2 updates later these issues have not been addressed yet. Some of the main new features of version 9 are essentially useless. So far I don't dare to touch the keywords in the library.0 -
9.1 seems to have fixed this bug. All my (old) keywords now appear in the Keyword Library overview.
Unfortunately there is no hierarchy, like I had in Aperture. Anybody know of an easy way to get that back, without doing it all manually again?0
