Using albums and deleting files
I've just used the albums feature in C1 6 Pro for the first time and I'm a bit confused. I'm just back from a trip to India with a lot of photos. To help me get more organised, I created a number of albums such as "Agra", "Wedding" etc and dragged images to them. I could then work on subsets of my whole set of images more manageably.
Now, I find that if I move an image to the Selects folder (whether working in the album or the main session folder) it still shows up in the album. Fair enough - C1 keeps track of it even if it moves. But
Can anyone suggest whether I am making the best use of this feature? It seemed like a good way of keeping track of images considering that I had several hundred. Is there a better way of working here? And presumably, if I empty the session trash, images will then disappear from the album. Is there a way of having an image that I want to delete go from the album straight away?
The only kind of workaround I have thought of so far is to use the rating system. Set all the images I want to delete to 1 star, then remove all the 1 star images from the album, then delete them from the session folder.
Anyone's suggestions welcome!

- - looking at the album, I can't tell which images have been moved to Selects and which haven't, and
- if I delete (i.e. send to the session trash) an image from the session folder, it stays in the album, and
- if I delete an image from the album, it just removes it from the album, but it doesn't send it to the session trash.

I think you make a fairly good use of Albums. An Album is a virtual folder which can contain pointers to the original physical image file (including adjustments).
The Selects and Trash session folders are physical folders. An image file move to that folder is removed from its original location.
My first suggestion to you is to either use the Albums or the Selects / Trash folders, not both at the same time to prevent confusion.
My second suggestion is to use Smart Albums. A Smart Album is an Album which automatically populates with images based on predefined constraints. For example lets make a Smart Album with constraints are "keyword = wedding" and "rating = 2 or more stars". When you assign a 1-star rating to any image to delete, it will automatically disappear from the Smart Album.
For Smart Albums to work properly it is important to now that CO6 is looking dynamically for images in all Session Folders, Session Albums and Session Favorites. So, in case you have multiple image folders, make each folder a favorite, and Smart Albums will look into these folders for images.0 -
Thanks, Paul.
