    Mike,

You can select the Profile icon above after login and then Edit.

    Preview Cache:
Upon installation you are asked to set the location of the Previews Cache.
The default location is: C:\\Program Files\\Phase One\\Capture One PRO\\ Previews
This cache contains the image Thumbnail or Work files .C1w and the Preview file .C1p
The .C1w file contains all image adjustment data and is the file to be archived along with the RAW files in order for these settings to be preserved. Previews will be rebuilt upon loading a Session folder. They will also be rebuilt after reloading an archived file. Once the image settings are Restored from Archive (.C1w) files, the Previews will adjust according to the saved data.
The location can be set at File > Preferences > Preview Cache tab And then choose location of the Previews cache - Choose Folder…
This location can be set to a server, but is affected by Anti Virus or Firewall software, and make working and shutdown take longer.

Files for All Sessions are kept in this location.
The files remain there and any further adjustments are updated and saved. When a Session is removed from Capture One, they will need to be saved and archived.

The above link is to a Forum post where we discuss this in detail. It should help you out

Clearing out the Preview Cache is good maintenance. Be sure to Archive and adjustment settings you want to keep. The .C1w files are only about 1K while the .C1p are much larger. And, if you browse JPEGs, these will create a jpg file in the Cache as well.

    Hope this helps.

    Sincerely,
    k c

I set preferences so the previews will clear every 7 days. Suddenly the preview file is up to 5 gigabytes. Inside are hundreds, maybe thousands of 1 kb work files still there from 2 months ago. I think the .C1p files are clearing out. I am a small operator--800 raw files per week. I noticed this problem when I hit \"process\" on a set of files (A), then try to crop and correct a different set, (B). Suddenly my CPU is at 100% and my set A processing dwindles to a standstill!! I go to harddrive C to delete some previews but can only reduce it from 5 gig to 3 gig. My processor is Dell pentium 4 2.8 gigahertz. Is something wrong with my preview folder that the .C1w files won't clear themselves out every 7 days?

    caroldwyer,

The .C1w or Thumbnail files as you've seen are only 1KB so not very likely they have much of an effect at all on your system performance. RAM is more important here and should be at least 1GB up to 2GB.

.C1w file contain the image adjustment data. If you want to save these data, then archive them - Workflow > Selected Capture Settings > Save to archive
If you don't want to save the adjustments, browse to Cache and Delete all.

Previews or .C1p files clear from cache once a Session tab has been removed from Capture One, but the .C1w files remain. Reselecting a Session will rebuild the Previews.
