Workflow recommendations?
While many of my peer photographers are turning to Aperture or Lightroom for their RAW processing, I'm about to go against the current trend and move my workflow to Capture One. The reason for this move is simple, Capture One provide the best RAW conversion and in the end it is image quality that matters above all else. Unfortunately this also means I have fewer resources when it comes to recommendations on topics such as workflow, so I'm asking for some advice.
In Aperture or Lightroom I would quickly edit the output from a shoot down to the selects using a combination of ratings and a filter to only show images rated at or above a certain level. I cannot find such a filter in Capture One, so I'm wondering how I can see only the select as I continue to thin from my first pass through final selection? I'm sure there is another approach, I just need some help getting there.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

I only see two ways of "thining down" to a final edit. No filter exsts as such (yet?) so you'll have to move them.
Use the 1-5 keys to star the photos. Then you have a drop down menu (sort by rating) in the top left of the thumnails window (next to the grid view and list view buttons)
Move the images to another folder in the "tree" (drag drop)
Or
Use albums. (File>new album>) and drag the stared ones to there (this indexes a link to the original and the original files will remain in the orignal folder). You can edit process and do whatever from the album. Thin down into the other albums from there.0 -
Two comments on workflow in addition to those made by Humannorobot.
I also use the 1-5 star rating. Instead of Sort by Rating, I use Select by Rating (Edit menu). It takes some time to get the grasp of this option. Best is to deselect all first (Sh+Cmd+A) and than select any star rating you like. You can cumulate selections (1 and 2 start for example).
Another option is to use the Move To folder for the selected files. This options moves the image plus settings/preview file to the Move To folder. You can specify your Move To folder before starting this operation or use the default Move To folder in de Capture One library folder.0 -
Let me make sure I understand this correctly:
- Is there no way to dynamically thin down the edit in version 4? In version 3 I would sort by tagged state, then simply untag images as I decided to discard them from the edit, they would be moved to the bottom of the list out of sight. In version 4 the sort does not seem to be dynamic. Is that correct?
- When selecting multiple images to view in the viewer I cannot figure out a way to remove one from the viewer other than to go back to the thumbnail and cmd-click on the thumnail. This is very inconvenient, is there a way to remove one from the viewer within the viewer like in Lightroom?
- Is there a way to make the selected thumbnail in the browser show up more? The thin black line is not very obvious to me and I have to end up searching for which one is selected
Thanks,
