Image selection lost when image removed from Smart Album

I am in the process of moving from Aperture to CO. One of my preferred methods of thinning down my selects in Aperture is to filter a view ratings of 3 or higher and then knock images down to a 2 if they don't make the cut. In Aperture the images is removed from the view as soon as I move to previous or next image. In CO I create a smart album for ratings of 3 or higher and then follow the same process. But, in CO, the image is removed instantly and I am left with no images selected. I have to grab the mouse and select an image before continuing, which dramatically slows my workflow. Is there a better way to do this so the selection automatically jumps to the next image? I may be missing something obvious.

    No, it doesn't sound like you are missing anything.
    I would suggest perhaps using Color Tags to select your images, sorting by Color in a Smart Album and then rating accordingly, ensuring that Star Rating is also a factor of the Smart Album.
    The Smart Album, in your workflow, is doing exactly as it is designed but I can certainly see the slowdown when an image is removed and its successor is not selected automatically.
