Free Upgrades?
I just tried entering my "legacy" serial number into version 5 and I was DENIED!!
It says I have no more upgrades despite being entitled to 2 free upgrades according to the license management.
I definitely remember that Phase officials defined an upgrade as going from one major version to another. eg. 3.5->3.7
doesn't count but 3.7 -> 4.x did. At the very least version 5 should be the 2nd upgrade for those of us Legacy users.

According to tech support the problem with being able to upgrade from the Sandisk LE version to Capture 5 Pro is now fixed for the rest of the world on the Phase One store web site, but not the US. Tech support is working on the problem. According to Sales and Marketing you can upgrade from the Sandisk Le version to the 5 Pro version. 0 -

...But what I cannot understand (assuming the statement was correct): Full price for the next upgrade. Sorry, but that is quite a different story. I would pay the price for the upgrade - even concidering the pro version - but in no case the full price because there are alternatives around the corner. It would be quite a pitty to leave a program that suited my needs for the past time but especially when it comes to pay an additional 25% VAT (instead of the regular 19% in my country) any cent counts ...
That is what are my thoughts. I am willing to pay the price for an upgrade (Sandisk 3.xx LE to 5) but not for a full version.
The answer of P1-Support to my request started with these words:[quote="P1-support" wrote:
If you compare policies to Adobe, they would never include a free update like we did. ...
This is true, but Adobe's upgrade policy is different from P1: For example, I'll pay for a PS-upgrade from CS to CS4 the same price as an upgrade from CS2 or CS3 to CS4 costs. The same applies to PSE and other products.0 -

Are you sure? I'm in Europe - well, the UK - and when I try and buy the upgrade to the standard version, I get:
"Wrong type of Product Key: Sandisk Capture One LE"

That's what they told me. I don't think they know what they are doing ๐ Open up a support case if you haven't already. 0 -
I opened a support case asking the same questions asked here (number of upgrades left from a sandisk verion) and I did not even get an answer โน๏ธ 0 -
Just to let you know: by today my account says for the 3.x Sandisk Key: No upgrades left. So they fixed the view at least. 0 -

Yes.. Free Upgrade left: 0 (ZERO)!
That's a nice way of solving problems!0 -
Like others here, I have tried unsuccessfully to purchase an upgrade to v5. I'm not expecting a free upgrade to v5, but as I have a fully licensed copy of v4 I'd at least expect to be able to purchase the 'upgrade' version.
I have a Sandisk LE licence for v3, which kindly allowed me to upgrade to v4 (thankyou P1 ๐ ) and IMO I should now be able to purchase an upgrade to 5 and not have to pay full price.
The fact that the LE licence was originally 'given away' by P1 is irrelevant IMO, they chose to do this to get a bigger customer base.
If I'd been given Adobe CS and later was able to upgrade to CS3, I'd now be able to buy an 'upgrade' to CS4 - Why not allow legitimate owners of v3 & v4 to upgrade to v5 โ โ
And yes, my number of upgrades available has also now been changed to zero ๐ Are P1 'moving the goal posts' ?0 -

Thanks for an intelligent post.
I'm in the same situation (sandisk le > free upgrade to v4) and don't expect another free upgrade (I immediately assumed something was wrong with Upgrades left:1) but I did and do expect a paid upgrade.
It IS totally irrelevant how users got their (legitimate) CO4 licenses: when Phase One gives away for free, it's their choice and they'll have had their reasons to do so with v3Le.
Fact is, that now users of that version and it's upgrade version 4, have invested in using Capture One as their Raw developer (I mean in learning the program and making it their standard converter), and may now depend on it.
It's somewhat of an exploit, to now charge them fully by denying them a paid upgrade.

Carefull, I did bought C1 3Le, Not received it!
What's annoying me is the fac that I cannot pay for the upgrade, I have to pay the full price.
That's it ๐0 -
Same here, my upgrade has vanished. They have moved the goal post. I am willing to pay 69 euros for the upgrade, but I don't think I should have to pay the full price. I get this message: "Wrong type of Product Key: Sandisk Capture One LE". 0 -

I bought C1 Pro ver. 3.7.7 and was told with the Pro version I get 2 FREE major upgrades. That meant I could upgrade to ver. 4 and I believe ver 5. I'm with the rest of you. I stayed with C1 with the hopes for ver 5 being really good. If they try to tell me that it's not free I'm going to hit the ceiling.
Hmm... Did you read this same discussion in Mac-thread? There is very clear, official and simple answer from Phase One which I may quote here:
==============
To officially clarify, Capture One 3 Pro keys included 2 free upgrades, the 1st upgrade was Capture One Pro 4, the 2nd upgrade is Capture One Pro 5.
Capture One Pro 4 keys did not include free upgrades, so a Capture One 5 upgrade price will be offered for those users.

This far I personally haven't had time to try upgrading ver 5 from my 3.x Pro, but that sounds good to us who have paid for ver 3 and free upgrades. It's also interesting to see would the live view now work with P45 and Vista...

I just tried upgrading my C1Pro 3 key- I get "No more free upgrades
available for this license code"
While on my profile it says:
Free upgrades left: 1
Activations left: 0
I'll admit I'm having a bit of a rough week, but am I missing something here?

This thread is of interest to me.
I also purchased Pro v 3.7 with a license for 2 upgrades.
From what I gather...
If I download version 5 and install it, and do whatever I have to do to enter the key/unlock it, I will be refused?
Will this leave me with a 30 day demo or can I revert to the last version 4 I had installed?

Confused.
This was not my experience. I originally bought C1 LE and then upgraded to C1 PRO (which gave me the same two free upgrades) in the early version 3 days. I have been able to install and activate version 5 with no problems.
However, when version 4 was released, I and a few others, had problems with the keys not activating version 4. I believe, and it is certainly true in my case, the issue was a problem on the Phase One key server and it was very quickly resolved by Phase One staff using the Support Case mechanism.
If you are going directly from 3.X PRO to 5.0, it is *possible* that there may be an unresolved key server issue which will prevent initial activation. If this turns our to be the case, I am sure it will be quickly resolved by Phase One support staff once a support case has been raised. In my case, I was up and running with an activated CO 4 within 2 days of installing - well within the 30 day grace period offered by the trial version.
Everyone who purchased 3.X PRO is entitled to upgrade to 5.0 without additional charge. If this does not appear to work, then a Phase One support case will be way to get the activation issue resolved.

The v.5 release note states as follows -
"Capture One 5.0 is a paid upgrade to customers with Capture One 4.x and 4.x PRO and a free
upgrade to customers with Capture One 4.x DB.
Capture One 5.0 PRO/DB is a major upgrade to the respective versions of Capture One 3.x. Existing
customers with Capture One 3.x PRO/DB can upgrade to a similar version of Capture One 5.0 at no
extra cost."
So if one has been with C1 since v.3 Pro, or have been with v.4DB, he/she is entitled to a free upgrade up to v.5. If one has been with C1 only since v4 Pro, v.5 is a paid upgrade.
I, for one, have purchased C1 3.7? Pro back in 2007, as a boxed copy from Phase-One Japan, and I got a free upgrade (via network) to 4 and I got another for 5. So my understanding and observation are consistent.
If others who are like me with C1 3.xPro license cannot upgrade to v.5 for free, that means some kind of a technical problem that PhaseOne should respond and fix.0 -
Thanks to both of you for clearing this up for me.
I must say I am relieved.

The same problem. I can't buy an upgrade C4 to C5 because the Sandisk C1 key is the wrong type of product key. ๐ค
I'm disappointed if this is true, waiting now what the support will answer.
EDIT: Here is the answer:[quote="Phase One support" wrote:
Hello
The offer is valid for Capture One 4 to 5
This key is a Capture One 3 key s which inluded upgrade to Capture One 4.
So as many other software companies we have upgrade from one version to then next but not two steps.
So Price is 99 instead of 69 for Capture One 5
Kind Regards

Hello
I am back again. ๐
What happened? Yesterday I started the download of CO 5.0.1 and after doing this I tried to buy the upgrade from Sandisk-LE to CO 5. And now it was possible for 69 รขโยฌ + VAT. So I asked the support team if they change upgrade policies.
Here is the answer:[quote="Phase One support" wrote:
Hello
We did change this since there simply was to much confusion, we are from here on going in to a more "standard" upgrade policy and this way making things easier.

I find this is good news for Sandisk-LE users. ๐0 -
Great news, I've just upgraded 0
