No star ratings on import in C1 pro 8 on OS X Yosemite
I've recently moved from PC to Mac and have installed C1 Pro 8 on the Mac running OS X Yosemite. On import C1 won't recognise any of the star ratings from an external program - in this case Photo Mechanic. My typical workflow is Photo Mechanic to view and rate the images (I've found this is by far away the fastest method for doing this), import the star rated images into C1 and process the RAW files, into Photoshop for any corrective work/retouching or straight to final output from C1.
I know this is not an issue with Photo Mechanic as the ratings are recognised in other programs such as Bridge and Lightroom - though I never normally use either of these two programs.
I never had this is issue in C1 Pro 7 which would recognise the star ratings from Photo Mechanic as well as giving me the option to sort by rating on the import screen. I have looked at Preferences in C1 8 to see if I need to set something up here but can't see anything in Preferences - I can't remember having to do this when setting up C1 7 as it seemed to recognise the ratings by default.
Am missing something in the settings in C1 8? Or is this a glitch with C1 8 and OS X Yosemite?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Phil

Hi Phil,
Are the star ratings stored in the raw file (embedded) or in a XMP sidecar file. What raw files do you use, by the way?
I have CO8/Yosemite/Photo Mechanic running here and will try to recreate it with similar settings (see above).0 -
Hi Paul
Thanks for the reply. The star ratings are stored in a XMP sidecar files. The RAW files are NEFs from Nikon D800.
Curious to hear if you are getting the same thing with the same set-up.
Many thanks

A quick update. I've separated the star rated images into a new folder using Photo Mechanic and imported them into C1 8. The star ratings do actually appear once the RAW files have been imported into C1 but they still don't appear on the importer screen, as well have only having two sort options on the importer screen - name and date. I'm beginning to think this may be a Yosemite anomaly? 0 -
Hi Phil,
I am getting more humble every day I visit the forum. I learn something new every day. And I thought I new my way in Capture One... 😄
What you do experience is a difference between CO8 on Windows and on Mac. This is a so-called alignment issue. Your explanation about the Import Images dialog brought light into the darkness.
Cutting a long story short, the Import dialog of the Windows versions has more sort options and does show rating. The Mac version has just 2 sort options and does not show rating. I check it on OS X 10.9.5, 10.10.1, and Windows 8.1.
Thank you for reporting, although it was not what you anticipated. I will contact my friends in Copenhagen (yes, I do have friends there). 😂0 -
Thanks for clearing that up Paul. I've not been using C1 8 for a week or so as I'm running OS X Yosemite, but have just updated to 8.0.2 so will now start using it again. I'm quite surprised that there are the extra sort options on the import screen on the Windows version and not on the Mac. Usually it's the other way around with extra features on the Mac version. It would be great if Phase One could have this feature on the Mac version too as it's very useful. In the meantime I'll use the workaround. 0
