C1Pro, Tagging, Ranking, Updatable JPG preview
I'm shoot with a P25 and a Flex Adaptor as well as Canon 1DSMII. I'm in the process of implementing a Digital Asset Management protocol and have some concerns about software. Most of my research with DAM recommends converting proprietary RAW files to DNGs and tagging them using Bridge or similar—this appears to be an emotionally charged topic, which I want to avoid. With DNG, the files are tagged as well as the ability to resave the JPG preview, which is great for cataloging the 5 years of images. So far I've been using C1Pro to do all this, but I'm not able to make a useable, flexible, scalable catalogue because it's not really made for that. I don't want to use Bridge and DNGs necessarily, but I DO WANT TO BE ABLE TO TAG, RANK, KEYWORD, AND SUCH AT THE POINT OF FILE INGESTION. One additional component is that I often use the flex adaptor to make large stitched images, which require Lens Cast Calibrations, something that I can't do anywhere but in C1Pro. Most of the DAM people out there like Peter Krough seem to shoot digital 35 and don't have the kind of workflow I have. I guess I'm asking for help from others and to plead with Phase to incorporate the ability to tag, rank and keyword files without having to bring along the equivalent of the sidecar files (.plist info in the case of Phase). For example, I can't view the RAW images shot with the P25 with an applied ICC profile that I made in Color Editor. In my cataloguing software, it still just shows the original JPG from moment of capture, whihc is seldom how my workflow goes. Any advice or suggestions? I use iView as cataloguing (a partner with Phase, no?). I kind of feel like I'm being forced to use Adobe's DNG, which I don't really want to do.
