Will it ever work without troubles?

Same behaviour here, really slow start up (SSD HD, Mac Pro 16gbram) and lots of spinning wheel of death.

Since I updated to C1 7.1.3 most of the time I spend watching the "wheel of Death" I will never undertsand why this software is hanging up itself so often - and is released by Phase One. Remember: It is not a Beta Version…

It does not work without troubles on my MacPro 3,4 (Open GL disabled) and it also does not work without causing problems on my iMac i7 (Open GL enabled/disabled)

Usually the Software starts up - this takes a very, very long time until it is ready to work. And very often, when I try to switch to another folder, it crashes or the spinning wheel starts for 5 or 10 MInutes or even longer.

Sometimes I would be happy if some of the software developers would be with me on a regular production day in the industry. Seeing how much time I loose with waiting for Capture One to start, restart, to work. It is dissapointing!

Please create a support case, and supply a good bit more information, so that we can help you. Things like session/catalog, how many pictures, what kind of pictures, extended machine specs and so on.

I too, have been experiencing major setbacks with 7.1.3 in tethered situations on set, especially it seems when time efficiency is critical. I ran my own speed tests and have reverted back to 6.4.5, and even though I've lost the support for my retina display, the stability and speed are (in my tests) undeniable.

    Same here!
We are a working Commercial Photography Studio. We are currently running C1 7.1.3 on 6 macs
with different processors and configurations. Some have Nikons tethered, some do not.
The macs have a range of software from 10.6.8 to 10.8.3. We have been using C1 since Ver 3.7 but
have never experienced anything like this. Crashes occur daily on all platforms since updating to 7 in October last year. We did not have these problems with ver 6. The problems are getting worse and the
time spent troubleshooting these issues have become unacceptable.

Reading posts on the forum it seems crashes, slow performance, corrupt files and beach balls are a widespread issue. Users and people on this forum have been sending you crash reports for 9 months.
What have you figured out from all of these logs and crash reports? Is there ever going to be a true fix?
Please be honest with your users and admit this is buggy software and maybe give us some
tips so we can reduce the amount of problems.

Cleaning cache and repairing permissions seems to only be a temporary fix.

We have been hanging on with the promise of a fix with every update
but we are seriously considering alternatives.

Phase one is in a constant state do denial about any problems. I opened a case earlier this year. We went back and forth arguing how I was doing thing the wrong way, finally after maybe 50 exchanges they admitted there was a bug. It is shame as it has the best quality rendering out there. If they just came forth and admitted the problems and fix them I think it would be a good thing. But they are Europeans and culturally that would be unacceptable.

    What a shame

I have no problem calling out Phase One when new software releases have issues but I have to say - I have no real make or break issues with the software right now. So it is not necessarily that there are widespread issues like listed in this forum. Yes I use it almost everyday in professional fashion tethered situations. There are a ton of refinements needed and software decisions that need to be addressed but stability (on 6.4.5 and 7.1.3) seems to be ok to me. Of course tethered with a Phase back is faster than with the USB2 Canon's but that's Canon's fault.
Some things I expect to happen - like its not the fastest to start up and it might crash or hang towards the end of the day - but those are long standing C1P issues (characteristics?) But I can use it all day on set, day after day, fast paced shooting and no problems on my shoot. I do recommend using Mac 10.6.8 when ever possible as I'm not convinced 10.7 or 10.8 are worth using if you have no reason to update.

I have troubles when I try to exit. I get the beachball. Really no exact repeatable scenario through. Sometimes it does it sometimes it doesn't.

Phase One said an OS update from 10.6.8 to 10.8 might be best. Trying to decide if that is wise though!

No real problems here but don't use so much anymore since buying a Hasselblad 503cw with Hasselblad 50 back so have been using Phocus.
Phocus is stable but it only does what it was meant for i.e. processing files and tethering.

I use tethered with 5M Lindy repeater firewire 800 and then 10M firewire 800 cable so 15M of cable works great no drop outs

I have actually stopped using Capture One as of last weekend, it just wasn't financially viable as I wasted too much time with it hanging and crashing and doing other weird inexplicable things.

I'm using Lightroom 5.0 now and even though its a first release of this version it is stable. Also after a bit of initial experimenting I'm not seeing any loss in the raw conversion quality vs C1 either. Skin tones are a little harder to get right but thats about it.

Problems here too. C1Pro6 was pretty good, but 7 just doesn't work right on any machine. Crashes, bugs, general slowness and irresponsiveness. It is a pain to work with and it makes me and my digital techs look bad to clients. The strange thing is I've almost come to accept it; Capture One is just slow and horrible and it crashes multiple times a day but I still keep using it. What am I going to do, shoot my IQ160 into Lightroom? I guess I could but I really would prefer it if C1Pro were fixed.

Many people do use LR and are very happy, you don't have to use the camera manufacturers software, I haven't used Nikon's Capture NX for years because its so slow and buggy.

I did some portraits today and compared Lightroom and Capture One and have to say Capture One did a really nice job. I had to tweak a fair bit more in Lightroom to get the same results.

Then CO decided it wouldn't export jpg's (no idea why, the process button just didn't do anything) so I ended up using LR again anyway. I wish it was more reliable, every time I try to use it some issue crops up.

I originally had some difficulties as well, but what fixed it all for me was letting Clean My Mac uninstall C1P. With a fresh 7.1.3 on my 8 Macs with 10.8.4 Mountain Lion, I am having very little difficulty. We are shooting 1500 files into one folder without one issue, and the speed of processing files is outrageously fast. There are a few things that bug me(loss of rated images for one), but reliability is not one of them. I know there are a lot of frustrated users, but this helped me. Perhaps, it will help you as well.

Are you using sessions ? Its the catalog that seems to cause a lot of issues.
