Cannot redo and shortcuts stop working problem
Hi everyone,
So I recently bought capture one. I totally love this software. I am having two problems if anyone here can explain.
1. Cannot redo
So when I undo my last steps. And view the photo for sometime. And redo. I can only redo one step. Even though I did two undo steps. And sometimes not even that. I completely cannot redo. Sometimes after undoing, and viewing the image for a bit. Or changing panels, the redo suddenly greys out.
2. Shortcuts stop working
I use shortcuts a lot. And sometimes the shortcuts stop working in the software.
Would anyone know solutions to these problems?
Thank you!

Know some people who have persistent redo-problem with curves (since ver 10.1). The solution is to write to support and wait for updates ☹️ 0 -
I've also problems with shortcuts. For instance the red color mark. My custom keyboard shortcut is lost when I close c1. Some other custom shortcuts (exposure etc.) survive a restart of c1. 0 -
:/
There's no update and no fix ☹️0 -

Have you saved your workspace?0 -
No I didn't. I like the default workspace. What does workspace have to do with redo and shortcuts suddenly stopping working? 0 -

Shortcuts are part of customisation as are Workspaces.
If you change something in the default but don't save it the change will only exist until the current settings are closed.
So load a different workspace and go back to the original and you will get the original, bit the one you changed. Its the same with shortcuts. You can create you own set of shortcuts - in fact many which might have different values for different parts of you workflow if that would be desirable - and change to them according to need - but you do have to save them and it is good practise to give them a new name and make that you default for the workspace.
Why? Because if you just leave it as "default" the next installation will replace "your" default with its own default.
Nothing unusual with that - what is somewhat unusual is the amount of customisation Capture One offers. However, remember that if you make full use of it you need to manage it your self. For example there were some notable revisions to the "default" settings for V10 compared to V9 and some new tools were introduced at various points. When that happens you will need to revisit your own workspaces and, perhaps, adjust them to include the changes. (The same comments apply to changes to default shortcut settings from time to time when changes are required for one reason or another.)
I think you may need to consider these factors in relation to your lost shortcuts. If there is no connection then create a Support Case and seek deeper investigation.
As for the "redo" - one possibility is that the original list of changes has had to be modified subsequent change. As far as I am aware I have never used an application that has an unlimited backwards and forwards ability to undo and redo other than one that allows picking from a change list stack and even then the effects of subsequent actions can invalidate the stack. C1, as far as I can tell, works differently to the "stack" list concept anyway in certain ways.
Long ago, before I started to use Capture One, I much came to prefer the concept of saving various states of an image (or any document) regularly or at certain points that looked like a good reference to save. In C1 I use variants for that purpose.
Frankly I would not trust an operating system to give me the results I might want. With a variant I don't have that to be concerned about.

yes, i've saved my workspace.
feel free to try it out...
- give the red color mark the shortcut "x" (like the reject-function in lightroom)
- save workspace
- close c1
- open c1
- the shortcut is lost0 -
If you are changing shortcuts, is that saved in the same way as the overall workspace? I'm not convinced.
Here's the help on assigning shortcuts. I think you have to (1) create a custom set and name it as something meaningful to you (My personal shortcuts, or whatever), then (2) assign the shortcuts as you like.
(I can't check this out because I have a set of custom shortcuts and I don't see a Create button. But I do see a duplicate button and I think I have to use that if I want to have more than one custom set.)

Correct.
The concept is that most people might wish to modify a few short-cuts not start from nothing and there are some short-cuts (at least historically there were, V10 opened things up a little iirc) that were reserved for dedicated system use. Duplicating an existing list is a way to control any required constraints.
Like the Workspace concept is it possible, should one wish, to change the KB short cuts set to suit needs.
I guess to make full use of that you need to be a short-cut preferrer - which I am not.

But I never saved a workspace, I like the default setup. So I shouldn't be encountering problems with shortcuts. But what happens instead is that all the "default" shortcuts. And I mean all of them. Literally no shortcut functions. And it happens randomly.
As for the redo issue, no I am not speaking about unlimited steps. I am speaking about as less as one step. For example. I make a curve adjustment. Then I slightly darken the shadows. I undo, cuz it looks a lot. And then I try to redo back to darker shadows just to realise it's not functioning. And my redo arrow on top left is greyed out too. Am I missing something? Is this normal functioning?0 -
Do you create a new set(duplicate) for the shortcuts and make sure that is that active set?
Apologies for the initial confusion about how things worked when I mentioned workspaces. My point was that, like workspaces, the Keyboard Shortcuts can be customised and saved and that you then need to choose the customised set in order to retain your settings as the Default values will be replaced with software updates and re-installs.
If you are modifying the shortcuts and then using your own set and still see the settings disappear then you should create a Support Case and report the problem to the Capture One support team for further investigation.

If this happens only with Curve-tool, then many people have the same bug (and I'm one of them) 😄0 -

Nope! It happens with any adjustments lol0 -
regarding the shortcut-problems. i opened a ticket and finally the support identified a bug:
let me pick the "red colour mark" as example. the default shortcut is "oemminus" (btw..."oemminus" seems to be the same key as "subtract"). if i delete or overwrite this value the default shortcut is still active (!) in background but not displayed in the shortcut screen anymore.
the problem is...if i assign the subtract/oemminus-key to other functions (in my case "exposure -0,1") this new setting works fine BUT the custom mapping of the red colour mark is getting lost...everytime you close the shortcut screen.
summary: until the fix is published no one should remap default shortcuts.0
