Moving from PC to Mac
Hi all,
I am planning to move from PC to Mac soon. Do any of you might give me an idea if C1 Pro 6.2.1 runs well in Mac Mini - 4GB RAM and 256K nVIDIA GeForce 320M Graphics card? As I don't want to buy a Macbook or other notebook, depending on your opnions, it seems that I'll have to go for a Mac Pro ($$$ - too expensive - I am trying to avoid it!!!). I am especially worried about Keystone feature performance. As its internal hard drive go no further than 500 GB, I am planning to use external drivers (USB 2.0, BTW), although I usually don't do much processing.
Thanks in advance. 😊
PS: there will be no tethering capture and files (nearly 12 MB each) will be downloaded from CF cards, using a Lexar firewire card reader. Each download session should contain nearly 1,000 shots, spread in diferent cards.

Mac mini versus Mac Pro: two ends (lowest, highest) of the Apple range. Why not look for the option in-between?
I don't think the Mac mini will satisfy you when you come home with 1,000+ shots each time and you won't be happy with 4 GB RAM anyway (you can and better should go to the max. of 8 GB). However, a refresh of the Mac mini is expected in Q2 or Q3 this year and might be a lot more promising that the current Core 2 Duo offering. Not sure you can wait that long.
Many Apple notebooks are used stationary with a supplemental (properly calibrated) monitor. The broad range of configurations and price tags make it attractive to get your pick that fits your budget. This applies in particular to the MacBook Pro range.0 -
Using external USB hard drives is a very bad idea, at least use firewire 800...
This is no Windows, USB on mac is about 4 time slower than firewire.
Core 2 is acceptable for 15-20 megapixels but is a bit over the limit for 30-40 megapixels files.
Why don't you take a look at some 21" iMacs if budget i tight.0 -
Thanks tantareanu and Paul_E for the reply. 0
