X100 RAF to DNG in Capture One 4
I've been converting my Fuji X100 RAF files into DNG with Adobe DNG Converter so that I can use them in my CO 4.8..3. What I've found peculiar is that as I click on these thumbnails in CO to view the converted DNG image, it momentarily appears sharp and then looses this definition. The same happens if I click on any of the tools' auto adjustment options: the image will appear sharp (how I would like it to stay) and then this sharper definition will disappear. I've never had this before with my M8 DNG files. Does this make sense to anybody? What's going on?

Sounds to me that the software is just reading the embedded thumbnail which may appear sharp but is actually pixellated. The final view is more accurate. 0 -
Hi Drew,
Thank you for your reply.
Though not really sure what you mean when you say 'the final view is more accurate'. Do you mean how they should look when clicked on to enlarge, or if I process them into jpegs? The enlarged image does not seem pixellated at all, just slightly 'unsharp' with lack of definition., which momentarily goes away when I click on anything as mentioned above, but doesn't remain like that. It's really odd, but unhelpful to work on. These same files look perfect when opened in Aperture 3. I can actually work with the original RAF files (which I create the DNGs from) there but prefer to work with DNGs which I'm used to and Capture One. Can it be anything to do with the fact that these DNG files were created from the RAFs in Adobe DNG converter, that's conflicting with Capture One 4 in any way?0 -
It is more a Capture One 4 issue, I think. It was a common remark (frustration sometimes) as the 'not-ready-yet' preview was more appealing than the final state. Both the building up of the preview as well as the quality (and sharpness) of the final preview is improved in later versions. What remains is that only at 100% preview and in the focus tool (later versions) you get an accurate impression of the output image file regarding sharpening.
As you might be aware CO6 currently supports the X100 raw files natively (just for the record).0
