Performance Issues with CaptureOne
Hi,
i've one of the fastests Apple machines on my desk but Capture One is still slow. I'm working with a Mac Pro (Late 2013) 3GHz 8-Core with 1TB Flash and 64 GB RAM in combination with the AMD FirePro D700 GPU and a NEC 4K 32" display in front of me. So outgoing form this (fucking expensive) Hardware everything must fly… and it did – except CaptureOne.
The performance of the import (rendering previews) and export (JPEGs) are fine. But whats going on with the pure editing of the images? The editing changes doesn't react smoothly to the sliders - it feels so sticky. And if i take a look over to Lightroom, there is all fine - everything felt "live".

I know it won't solve your experience but I don't get that feeling here at all.
Using similar hardware; Mac Pro (Late 2013) 3.5GHz 6-Core with 1TB Flash (for catalog and Thunderbolt attached 4-bay RAID for mostly RAW images), 32 GB RAM and AMD D500 together with my NEC 4K PA322 UHD.0 -
Additional hint and question:
Did you set the Display resolution in OS X to 'Default for display'' (OS X > System Preferences > Displays)?
Should you use a 'Scaled' setting give the 'Default for display' setting a try and see if there is any difference.
Another idea is that within C1 Pro I have set my 'Preview Image Size' (C1 Pro > Preferences > Image) to the same as the NEC display (3840) resolution used.0 -
Thank you Andy for your reply. I've tried both with the display settings – no change in the performance at all. The previews all also rendered in 3840px.
You can confirm that your editing reacts instantaneously to the sliders???0 -
Hi Karlis,
Hm, I just did some real basic testing and comparing with C1 Pro to Lightroom. Therefore I just used the expose, contrast, brightness, highlight and shadows sliders. It feels a tiny bit smoother doing it in Lightroom, I must admit, but I cannot call it sticky or not live. Picking up a slider there is some very slight delay noticeable at start compared to LR and a bit of flickering while dragging the sliders, but really I do not see it bad or unusable.
I even run the same sliders within Affinity Photo and there I found it very distracting and hindering that the image gets build (rendered) with hundreds of square tiles flickering until you stop the slider movement and the image is set. Within Pixelmator I found the flickering very disturbing while dragging.
Just my personal view, feeling and opinion that is.
(currently using OS X 10.11.2 Beta 5 here)0 -
Do you have OpenCL set to Auto or never? I haven't tried 9 yet. I get better performance with "never".

Without OpenCL it is unusable 🤭 0 -
Same here.
And even though my machine is pretty old (Mid 2010 Mac Pro, 2.8 GHz Quad) it has a decent graphics card (Sapphire 7950) and Capture One 8 flew on it. The sliders went smooth like an oiled baby butt.
With version 9 sliders are sticky and changes do not appear on screen immediately.
Outputting to JPEG (which also benefits hugely from the GPU) still runs great.
I know Phase One don't have older GPUs and computers like mine high on their priority list. But reading similar experiences from somebody with a current machine (if you can call a 2013 machine current - Apple, are you listening?) makes me think there's something wrong.

Hmmm, I've got a very similar set up as below and C1 v.9 is fantastic with my 27 inch NEC 27 spectra view. I was just about to purchase the NEC 32 4 K but the last thing I want to put up with is worse performance than what I've got right in front of my with the NEC 27. I get zero hesitation with sliders...all run incredibly smoothly. anyone getting flawless performance with C1 v) and the NEC 4k 32 inch??? Many thanks, Eleanor [quote="Karlis" wrote:

I'm in the same boat as you. Mac Pro 2013 6-core 32GB RAM and D500 GPUs with a 4K Dell display... and the performance is so horrible it's to the point I'm going to be forced to switch. I really think the performance issue is amplified 10x with high pixel previews on 4K or 5K displays. I had C18 on my 2013 Retina MacBook (dual core 8GB Intel graphics) and it was smoother on that screen than on my Mac Pro. I should try v9 but it will probably just make me cry.
With C18, I did a video of just how bad the issue was then. It improved a bit with that release before summer, but now with the release of 9 it's back to horrible... Especially brush work. I enable mask, draw a brush stroke and wait a second or two to see the red mask. It's unusable.
C18 adjustment performance: http://youtu.be/8OUe_49GwVA
I really think PhaseOne needs to reach out to Apple and figure out what they are doing wrong, because Apples app performs like real time... No lag... http://youtu.be/AV2EyxXbK84
The problem is real and it's horrible.0 -
Just as another data point, I'm seeing smooth performance in CO9 with:
Mac Pro (late 2103) with 3.5 GHz 6-core, 32 GB RAM, AMD D500s with 3072 MB, and an Apple 30" Cinema Display. It's running OSX 10.11.2.
Maybe it is the 4K that's causing it? Bad news for those of us saving to upgrade to 4K or 5K displays.0 -
Even in a single session I just started, less then 20 files and switching between camera and adjustments....beachball and so much time it feels like a crash.....
This is on last years top mbp 15....which can cut 4K video like butter, and photos app is a joy....0 -
Same problem here
Slow as never before, both with IQ250 files and Sony A7RII
Mac Pro 2013, 3,3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5, 64 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Dual AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB0 -
Did you tried to turn off Proof Profile. I.e set it to No Profile in View->Proof Profile 0
