Deactivation needed?

    Yes, you should.

Not sure whether I would clone my HDD to the SDD. At least Win7 should take the different kind of hardware into account during installation. Gray area. You for sure would like to disable auto defrag and probably indexing.

    Paul,

thank you for quick response. I did clone HDD in the past and I think I deactivated both CS5 and CO. Anyway, better be safe than sorry. 😉

You are right. I think both use the disk ID in the activation process and cloning a disk with disable activation on the new disk as a result. With CO you can regain lost activations, but with CS5 not (as far as I know).

A short update. I deactivated CO and CS5 (though not sure about the CS5 as there were two options, one was “permanent†so I selected the other one). The migration process was very quick using Intel migration software (from Acronis). The SSD is Intel series 320 120GB capacity. How does it work now? I copied approximately 300 raw files from EOS 40D to a folder. The CO started almost immediately. When I pointed it to the folder containing the raw files the thumbnails were visible instantly and I was able to work without any delays. I was pleasantly surprised with the performance. Currently I am running Dell with i7-2600 and 8GB RAM. It works better than I expected.

Good to hear about your satisfactory results. An SSD is a great update to your hardware and Capture One loves it, so to speak.

A note regarding the two types of deactivation of PS CS5. One is 'suspend activation' and the second 'deactivate permanently'. I think that you normally select suspend option, which keeps the license key in the system and allows you to easily activate it again without entering your key.
You can choose to permanently deactivate CS5 if you sell your computer and want to deactivate AND remove the key from your system. This allows for activation with a different key or the same key, but you must enter it again.

Both deactivation options change the activation counter at Adobe's activation server.
