Repeated Crashes and Freezes with 4.7
I've had repeated crashes and system freezes with 4.7 Pro on Mac 10.5.6. This is something of a first. Has completely frozen my system, I don't believe that this has ever happened before since moving to Mac OS X, vaguely reminiscent of Mac OS 9. Odd and troubling behavior. Crash report sent in. Totally unexpected coming from CO Pro.

You might try throwing away your Phase One preferences if your on a MAC. That seams to clear up a lot of issues.

This thread seems to wander but I would like to ask if the RAM issue happens on the PC side? I am at a point of running the C1 on my mac in Windows if that works better until the extension issue is resolved (see my earlier post) . What is the best program at this point to run Windows on a Mac? Will C1 4.7 run in XP or do you need Vista? I guess I will need to deactivate my Mac version and install a Windows version on My Macbook Pro Intel.
Help please.0 -

I think the problem sometimes is no 2 computer is exactly the same. It could be slightly different hardware or software installed. However I have run C1 Pro on Win XP over Mac OSX 10.5.6 with no problems. But then, I also have no problems running C1 Pro directly in Mac OSX 10.5.6 so I guess it's best you just give it a try and see how it goes.0 -

The need for deactivation depends on whether you have still activations left. You can either run CO4/Win on your Intel Mac with Boot Camp or through a virtual machine on top of OS X. In the latter case, color management because unclear (at least for me). Both options run fine according to my experiences.
Note that you don't have FireWire connectivity in your virtual machine, in case you might need that for tethering.0 -
Right now I have C1 active on a G5 PPC Mac tower and my Macbook Pro- Intel. My plan is to install the Windows version of C1Pro running on Bootcamp with XP SP 3. The Phase one support tells me that all I will need to do is activate the version I want to run on the Macbook and deactivate the other. That's the plan I will see how it goes. I am going through this dance because of the issue of my 5D Mark II shutting down in tethered mode.
If a new Mac OS resolved this issue this all might be moot. I have learned that in the world of software development dreams don't always come true as quickly as you might like.0 -

The possible workaround of quitting C1 4.7 after a certain number of frames -might- get us through a high speed fashion shoot. We reboot our machines periodically at convenient times anyway.
However, the problem of preview rendering kills this software for us. There is No Reason that the art director needs to be looking at an empty preview window half the time. In C1 3x. the preview would appear, sharpen, and then PERSIST until the next frame replaced it. Despite the time lag, the old software gave the AD time to see the image and make a judgment. In 4.7, the preview appears, sharpens, and then disappears leaving a blank window for a second until the next frame appears. I have had an AD insist that we stop the shoot and revert to C1 3x and the DS MkII.
I am happy to report that C1 4.8 has greatly improved preview rendering for the Canon 1Ds MKIII. The image stays around just long enough for a quick-eyed art director to see it. Still slower than the MKII over Firewire, but MKIII file size is larger and USB is, well, USB. So no more empty preview window. Thanks, PhaseOne.
Sadly, the Image Capture Extension memory leak over USB still exists, requiring the user to proactively quit that process in Activity Monitor and restart C1 4.8. I'll outline this process in the CaptureOne 4.8 thread. So the Canon 1Ds MKIII has become a viable backup camera, but still not ready for a high volume fashion shoot.0 -
I have installed C1 4.8 on a Windows partition using Boot Camp. I just did my first photo shoot where each session had at least 200 images. I had no freezing issues and everything seemed to go smoothly. Since I formatted the Windows partition using FAT 32 I was able to retrieve the files from the Mac side. Since I do most of my processing on the PPC tower I (with help from Apple) was able to move the files over. Since the session was created on Windows it was not recognized on the Mac side. I had to create a session on the Mac version and move the col 45 file into the Windows session. Once that col 45 file was replaced all worked OK. Obviously this creates a much longer workflow but not getting the freezes seems like a fair tradeoff for now until a solution on the Mac OS is found. I was wondering if there is a way to create just the Mac col 45 file without all the extra folders since that is the only file I really need since Windows has created the other folders Capture, Output etc. Any other workflow improvement suggestions are welcomed. 0
